MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Lenten Thought
True prayer is listening – God has more important things to say to us than we to Him (after all, he knows what we are thinking).
If we open our hearts to God, if we allow God to work within us, then God is able to bring out the best in us. With the help of God’s grace, we can grow into the human person that God intended us to be, and in turn we are able to help others to reach their full potential as human beings created in the image and likeness of God . . .
Lord, open my eyes so that I may see the good in all people,
especially those that I am too quick to judge.
Amen
Evening on the Green was a very special community gathering. The turnout was brilliant and the positive vibe/atmosphere was wonderful. Thank you to Alana Metaxas and Melinda France for coordinating the event plus some of our Year One parents for being great support and helpers. Bravo!
Interschool Swimming Carnival
Our students from Years 4-6 enjoyed putting their swimming skills into action, as they represented St Luke’s, in achieving their personal best at Interschool Carnival today. Our students participated in a spirit of encouragement and goodwill. It is great to be able to see our swimmers flourish, push others outside their comfort zone, where we grow considerably, and also build great school spirit and pride. A very big thank you to Mr Noseda for his work in coordinating this extra curricula event, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. I extend my sincere thanks to Mrs Pollard for volunteering to support and help the children participating during the day. It is another example of our community working together for the benefit of our amazing students.
Fathering Group Sleepover
It is very fitting that Pope Francis proclaims the ‘Year of Saint Joseph’. (“With a Father’s Heart”), Pope Francis describes Saint Joseph as a beloved father, a tender and loving father, an obedient father, an accepting father; a father who is creatively courageous and, a working father. Tomorrow evening, dads and significant adult figures in our school will be camping with their children on the grass and undercover area. Fun activities, pizza for dinner, bacon and egg burgers and a coffee van Saturday morning will be provided. This is a fabulous start to the St Luke’s Fathering Group and we look forward to seeing you there!
Teacher Parent Meetings
A reminder that this Monday school will finish at 12pm. If you can collect your child/ren at 12pm, this would be great. Otherwise as previously stated, children will be supervised at school until normal pick-up times.

On Wednesday, 31 March, we will be walking through the journey of Jesus before his crucifixion.
These will take place on the school grounds as each class has been very busy designing and creating a cross that depicts each station.

We will begin each session in the school hall.

We have been fortunate to secure a highly regarded expert, Kayelene Kerr Dip(PublicSaf), AdvDip(PublicSaf), BA(Just) to facilitate our parents and students through a series of information sessions next term. Kayelene’s company, eSafeKids, delivers engaging and sought after prevention education workshops to educate, equip and empower children and young people, and to help support parents, carers, educators and other professionals. Kayelene believes protecting children from harm is a shared responsibility and she aims to inspire the trusted adults in children’s lives to tackle sometimes challenging topics.
Wednesday 21st April: Student Workshops Years 3 – 6.
Wednesday 21st April: Compulsory Parent Workshop Years 3 -6 (6.00 - 8.30pm).
Tuesday 27th April: Parent Workshop Pre K- Year 2 (6.00 - 8.30pm).
We have intentionally aligned the student sessions and senior parent workshop on the same day to assist in the conversations you may have at home as a family. As this workshop is compulsory please mark your diaries now in advance.
A big thank you must go to our P&F for funding these workshops so they will be of no cost for our families to attend. We are so grateful to our hard-working P&F for supporting this initiative which will benefit our families at St Luke’s.

Parenting Ideas - Social Worker
In the article "Managing anxiety before it becomes a problem' Michael Grose suggests helping children to develop tools to manage their anxious feelings. Deep breathing exercises such as 'starfish breathing', 'lazy 8 breathing' or 'bubble breathing' all help children to focus on slowing their breathing. The book 'Hey Warrior' by Karen Young explains what anxiety is, the physical signs and self calming techniques; this book is good for children 8-12 years old. 'Please explain anxiety to Me' by Laurie Zelinger is another good book for helping older primary school children understand anxiety. Mindfulness meditation is another helpful tool there are plenty of sites on you tube, 'Sitting still like a frog' is one of my favourites. Helping children to change unhelpful thoughts into helpful thoughts, can also help them to deescalate the situation that has triggered their anxiety.
