Life is Like a Fairy Tale
Last week we began reading fairy tales and the students have learned and can identify the elements of a fairy tale. So far, we have read Little Red Riding Hood, The 3 Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, and Jack and the Beanstalk. I have also exposed them to "fractured" fairy tales. These stories are base upon traditional tales that you already know but the writer may change the characters, plot, setting, or point of view. The fractured tales that we have read in class are Little Red Cowboy Hat, The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, Goldie and the 3 Bears, and Kate and the Beanstalk. We have generated a lot of quality discussion as a class comparing and contrasting the traditional tales with the fractured ones.
In OUR Opinion...
Last week we taste-tested 6 different flavored Oreo cookies! The flavors presented to them were: Regular, Heads and Tails, Lemon, Berry, Birthday Cake, and Golden. We were on a quest to figure out which one we like the best and it was definitely a task that none of them minded doing! After a lot of crunching, thinking, and note-taking, the kids began to write their very first opinion piece stating which one is their favorite flavor Oreo cookie. These stories will be coming home by the end of the week and I have to say that these are the BEST writing pieces I have seen them write all year so far!
