Time for school!!!
What a quick summer! It seems that August rolls around more quickly each year! With August comes so much excitement and anticipation for all - whether starting a new preschool or someone headed off to kindergarten or just the thought that Fall is around the corner. The excitement has begun!
Change can be hard for many, but especially for kids. Whether it is dealing with a new school, a new family member, or a change in routine, transitions can be a challenging and stressful time.
Children thrive in a predictable environment, where daily routines such as arrivals and departures, mealtimes, nap times and toileting are dealt with consistently. Daily routines provide opportunities for children to learn more about themselves, the world around them and other people. Daily routines also offer children a sense of stability, and a feeling of warmth and caring.
It is especially important during these transition times of returning to school, starting preschool, or just with our everyday lives that we help our children with predictable and consistent routines. Routines play an important role in their development.
Allow lots of time for listening, exploring feelings and making time to have fun! Sleep and nutrition will also play an important role in helping children to handle stress and anxiety. Stick to routines and healthy habits, and set an example for your kids by being as positive and consistent as possible.
