Poppy Popcorn Fundraising

Last week your student should have brought home a Poppy Popcorn fundraising packet. This fundraising effort will go to help fund the new school playground. Please check your child's book bag and blue folder for this sheet. Just in case you missed it, see below for the important information:

  • Fundraising forms and payment are due Friday the 13th. Checks should be made payable to Claxton PTO.
  • Popcorn will be delivered to school on Thursday the 19th and will be sent home with students. Large orders will need to be picked up either Friday morning or Friday afternoon.

Please let me know if you have any questions about our fundraiser.

This Week in Third Grade

Math- We continue our review of fundamentals this week as we build on our knowledge of addition to master subtraction. Our goal is for each student to find several strategies that work for them. Students will be practicing with numbers and word problems that challenge them individually, as well as prepare them for the EOG test. Look for word problems to practice pulling and organizing data to successfully solve the problem. Encourage your child to justify their thinking.

English Language Arts- We will be expanding our vocabulary with a continued study of prefixes and suffixes, as well as beginning an in-depth study of "testing" words. We will continue practicing our reading comprehension skills through a variety of texts.

Science- We continue our exploration of our solar system with a variety of activities.

Social Studies- Student work is on display outside of our class. If you are in the building, I highly recommend you stop by and see the finished projects!

Person of the Week

Our Person of the Week is Collin! We are celebrating Collin's contributions to our classroom discussions about space and math strategies. Collin uses his language skills to justify his thinking in a way that helps others learn. Collin has also been setting a great example during transitions and our time in line by being at a respectful CODE 0 as we walk past other classrooms. Collin carries his leadership with him everywhere we go, including Ms. McMillan's kindergarten classroom where he patiently works with younger students to help them practice their sight words and shares his love of reading. We are so proud of Collin this week, and every week!
