Martell Monitor
Volume 1: Week 16 December 7, 2018
Dear Martell Families,
Dear Families,
This week we came together as a school community for our monthly Character assembly. We have been focusing on Teamwork and Compassion is being added. Our Character assemblies are the efforts of student council and other grade level helpers producing the entire program. They are student-led! This means the students write the speeches and act out the skits. We are going to be using our Martell Teamwork and Compassion for others as we fill the Firetruck on Tuesday with toys for Courage Kids!
Yesterday I sent home a reminder about the importance of bringing your child to school in the morning on time and picking your child up on time. School begins at 8:39am and ends at 3:37pm. As always, we appreciate all you do and are grateful for the attention you can provide this important reminder.
In Partnership,
Michelle Barsh

When/how can I see my child's report card?
Tuesday, December 11, 2018-Powerschool
On December 11, you will be able to access your child's report card on Powerschool. There are a few things I would like you to know as you view your child’s progress from the first marking period.
Report cards have been revised by our Teaching and Learning Department this school year. You will notice the report card view and areas assessed look different.
While most of the report card is filled out, some areas are left blank as teachers have not assessed these standards at this point in the year.
The Science and Social Studies content areas will have fewer areas assessed due to a shift in curriculum that is taking place over a two-year period.
The comment section of the report card is limited to 1000 characters.
The report card is just one form of academic progress monitoring and reporting throughout the school year. Parent-teacher conferences were intentionally scheduled in October for you to have earlier direct communication where you have the chance to ask questions and focus directly on your child. We had almost 100% participation at fall conferences.
The TSD Teaching and Learning Department will be surveying parents on this year’s report card revisions at the end of the year.
I am incredibly proud to lead our top notch teaching staff at Martell. Thank you for supporting the teaching and learning that takes place at Martell!

We are busy preparing for the opening of our new Troy School District Preschool next fall and are looking for input from families with preschool age children. If you have children who will be entering preschool in the near future (or are currently enrolled in a preschool program,) we would appreciate you taking a moment to share your thoughts with us. Also, please share this survey link with any other parents who might be able to give input as well.
IMPORTANT: Save the Date If you are interested in our NEW Troy School District Preschool, plan to attend our Information Night for Parents on Tuesday, January 15 from 6-7 pm in the Troy High School auditorium. Can you guess Mrs. Barsh's heritage?
Mrs. Barsh grew up in an immigrant family! She has visited her father's hometown 3 times, and she is regularly in touch with her relatives.
CLUES:
1. She celebrates her heritage by cooking sauce every Sunday.
2. She loves having many large family parties.
3. She has 21 cousins just on her dad's side.
4. She even married Mr. Barsh who grew up in a country close to the one where her family is from.
5. Clue, her maiden name may be a big hint!!
