Benfield Family Newsletter

October 3, 2021

Greetings Benfield Families!

We have had a terrific first month of school, and it sure feels great to have our children back in school for a full five days! They are doing a terrific job, and I and so proud of their perseverance and commitment to learning.

Interim Reports

AACPS will continue to use the Parent Portal as a means for keeping parents up-to-date on their child's grades and progress in school. The five-week mark of the first marking period is next week. Be sure to check PowerSchool Parent Portal beginning October 11th for your child's progress. If you have not signed up for parent portal, be on the lookout for an email on Wednesday with information on how you can access this useful website.

Halloween

We are working on plans for Halloween that will include a small-scale party in the classrooms. We will work with the room parents to organize the event. Due to the "gathering in a large crowd" restriction, we will not be hosting an outdoor parade for our families.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

We will have three opportunities in the next two months to host Parent-Teacher Conferences. Your child's teacher will reach out to you to schedule the conference. The conferences will take place during a two-hour early dismissal or two-hour late arrival day. There will be a virtual option for the conferences. The dates are: October 21st (2:15 - 4:15), November 22nd (8:15 - 10:30), November 23 (2:!5 - 4:15).

Picture Day

Parents can access the picture day ordering information here: Classic Photography Picture Day

The makeup/retake day is scheduled for November 15th.

Lost and Found

In an effort to keep students from gathering at the lost and found box, please be sure to label your child’s reusable water bottles, lunchboxes, jackets, etc. with first initial and last name, so that they may be returned to your child.

Masks

Be sure your child has an extra mask in their book bag in case theirs gets soiled. The following is the AACPS Guidelines for masks:

  • Masks must be worn, with limited exceptions stipulated in the regulation, by anyone inside an AACPS building.

  • Masks must be a solid piece of material without slits, exhalation valves, or punctures. They must cover the nose and mouth, be secured to the head, and fit snugly against the side of the face.

  • Gaiters are not acceptable as face coverings.

School Counselor's Corner

Note from Mrs. Wrye (School Counselor)-

As part of the developmental guidance program at Benfield Elementary School, some students are invited to participate in small counseling groups (grades 1-5). Children who share common concerns often benefit by meeting together to receive support through talking, learning, and sharing with one another. Participation in these groups is voluntary. The small groups are typically held once a week during student lunch times and run for approximately 8 weeks. If you would like your child to be considered for participation in a group to work on one or some of the childhood concerns listed below, please complete and submit this form.

Please know that groups are created based off the need presented at each grade level and are held at different times throughout the school year. I will do my best to include as many students as possible, but unfortunately not all interested students will fit into a group each year. If your student is selected to participate, you will receive a permission form prior to their first group meeting. Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns at cwrye@aacps.org.
