Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
I hope that this message finds all of you well. While this week was certainly not what we had planned or wanted, I am grateful that we are all safe and with power today. Despite the school closure, we are prepared to welcome some of our students next week for our ramp up to In-Person Learning.
Please look through this newsletter to find:
- Information for In-Person Learners
- Information for Remote Learners
- Updates to Camp War Eagle in Canvas
- The ORHS9 spirit wear store (where you can purchase the Class of 2024 t shirt and more!)
- Information on the optional PSAT for 9th grade students
- And more!
Update: Student progress reports will be pulled on Monday night. We understand that students just missed three days of instruction, so when you see the progress report, please view it as that - a progress report. It's just a snapshot of where your student is right now. The next progress report is the one that determines UIL eligibility, so if your student is not passing all classes at this point, now is the time to work with teachers and get worked turned in.
Thank you for your continued partnership with us! I am grateful to have such a supportive and involved parent community! We are looking forward to a great week of learning ahead!
Sincerely,
Melanie Bujnoch

Ramp Up and In Person Learning Reminders
Here are some things you should know if you chose In-Person Learning for your student:
- Ramp Up Week is an optional orientation to In-Person Learning. The goal is for students to get acclimated to the school and the COVID procedures. If your student is not able to attend, no worries! We are always here to help students every day, and we will make sure they understand the expectations and can find their way around campus every day.
- Students will not be completing school work while on campus, so they do not need to bring Chromebooks or computers with them to school next week. They may want to bring a notebook and something to write with in case they need to write something down in class, but they will not need any other supplies on these days. Students will only be in each class for 38 minutes.
- If your student checked out a Chromebook from us, we are asking that they bring it with them to school beginning on September 8th. We are not collecting them, but we will be using them in class, so it is important that they bring it with them.
- Students will be required to wear a face covering at all times in the building except when they are actively eating in the cafeteria or taking a quick drink of water in class.
- Traditional water fountains will be used as "Bottle Fill Only" stations, so we encourage all students to bring a refillable water bottle with them to school (preferably with their name on it somewhere). Students will not be allowed to drink directly from water fountains.
- Car riders are dropped off and picked up in the front of the building and bus riders are dropped off and picked up in the back of the building. It is very helpful to us when your student remembers how they are supposed to get home at the end of the day :)
Remote Learning During Ramp Up Week and Beyond
Here are some things to know:
- We are in an asynchronous model, so teachers will still have recorded lessons that remote learners can access any time.
- Teachers may still be offering optional live lessons, and all teachers will be available for tutorials and help each week. They will publish team tutorial schedules, and your student is welcome to attend tutorials for any teacher.
- Teacher have been encouraged to continue using the Canvas platform for In Person students as well, so the modules will remain as robust and supportive as they are now.
- The structure of the Canvas modules, attendance, and weekly reminder emails will be the same as you are used to now.
I ask for your understanding as teachers transition to working in both modes of instruction. This is new to all of us, so we may need to make adjustments to our plans along the way. Please share your feedback and grace as we work though developing an operations plan that is beneficial to all learners and their teachers. What we do not want is a frustrating experience for Remote Learners, so please continue to work with us as we create processes that provide balance for our teachers and flexibility for our students and families. We value your feedback, and we want you to be satisfied in any mode of instruction you choose.
ORHS 9 Ramp Up Week: August 31 - September 3
During the week of August 31st - September 3rd, all CISD campuses will be inviting students who have selected In-Person Learning to campuses so they can attend classes and familiarize themselves with the changes and rules that are in place as a result of COVID-19 precautions.
Students are invited to attend based on the following schedule:
Monday, August 31st: Students with last names A - C only
Tuesday, September 1st: Students with last names D - J only
Wednesday, September 2nd: Students with last names K - Q only
Thursday, September 3rd: Students with last names R - Z only
Friday, September 4th: Teacher Workday - No students on campus
We will have a schedule specifically for that day that will include an orientation in the morning and time to attend all eight classes (rather than our usual red day/blue day schedule).
Please review the following procedures with your student before they come to campus for the Ramp Up or for In-Person Learning beginning September 8th.
