BHS Student wins Statewide Conservation Contest

Fiona Aldighieri has been named a state winner in the "Where Does Your Water Shed" conservation poster contest sponsored by the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD). She received a $25 cash prize from the South Carolina Association of Conservation Districts and her poster will progress to the national competition. Congratulations and good luck Fiona!

FREE SAT workshop approaching!

SAT workshop- Thursday January 23 from 4-6pm in room 101. This free workshop will cover the Critical Reading and Writing sections of the SAT. Space is limited, so students should sign up with Ms. Waugh as soon as possible or email her at ewaugh@richland2.org

Financial Aid Information Night for Future College Students and Families

FAFSA Assistance Night- Thursday, January 23 from 5-7pm in the library. Seniors and their parents are invited to get help with filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). There will be a brief presentation followed by hands-on assistance. Parents are encouraged to bring a laptop, or email Emma Waugh at ewaugh@richland2.org to reserve a library computer.

BHS Blue Legion Band Member performs at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Congratulations to Marqwell Batts who was selected and performed as a member of the All-American Band this past weekend!

PROM 2014!

This year, prom will take place on Saturday, April 26th at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Details were emailed to all students earlier this week (also attached to this email with this B News link).

A ticket table will be set up Monday-Friday in the atrium AT LUNCH ONLY. Ticket sales will begin on Monday, January 6th and end on April 3rd. Tickets are ONLY available at lunch. There are no exceptions. Make sure to have your student ID with you.

This week, tickets will start out at $35, but will increase by $5 every week until April 3rd.

If one wants to change who their date to prom is, make sure you let one of the Junior Class officers know at the table set up at lunch. Also, for seniors who attended prom last year, make sure to stop by the table to verify that you will be attending prom again this year. Those SENIORS who attended prom last year are allowed to get in to prom for free this year. Please see Mrs. Ward in 104 if you have any questions.

BHS Football player Jordon Franklin makes Team USA!

Jordon was accepted to play for USA Football's Under-18 U.S. National Team Program. His selection was based on his football skill, leadership, and character. Jordon will begin practice with the team on February 3 and then compete against the Canadian National Team on February 7 in Arlington, Texas. Congratulations and good luck Jordon!

Former Bengal makes the NFL Pro Bowl

Congratulations to former Blythewood Bengal and current Arizona Cardinal Justin Bethel for making his first-ever NFL Pro Bowl Team!

Winter Sports Pep Rally

Our Winter Sports Pep Rally is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, January 24. We will follow our afternoon assembly schedule that day.

Report Cards

2nd 9 week report cards will be issued on January 22. Those students that earned Honor Roll for 2nd 9 weeks (All A's and B's) will be treated at the Honor Roll cookout during lunch on January 24.

Student Holiday

There will be no school on January 20 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Sparkleberry Fair Scholarship Opportunities

The Sparkleberry Fair is once again generously offering high school students $1,000 college scholarships. Applications may be accessed by clicking on the link below for any high school seniors interested in applying.


1/2 Days Coming

The last two days of first semester will be half-days for all Richland 2 high school students. We will dismiss at 12:15 on on January 14 and 15. As a result, Wednesday, January 15 will NOT be a late-start day. We will begin our day at 8:35. Students will then start Day 1 for second semester by reporting to PAWS at the beginning of the day.

Child Development Applications

Richland Two’s Title I Child Development Program will be accepting applications

Monday, January 13, through Friday, April 11, 2014

• This is a needs-based program designed to ensure that the most

at-risk children enter kindergarten with the skills necessary to

succeed academically.

• The full-day program is free to qualifying families

• Children applying for the program must be four years old by

September 1, 2014.

• Applications will be taken at the Clemson Road Child Development

Center (CRCDC) at 2621A Clemson Road, Monday - Friday, from

8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
