A note from the Principal...
Dear Twain Families,
I hope this letter finds you relaxed and rested for the new school year! On behalf of our entire staff I’d like to welcome our new and returning students to Mark Twain Elementary for the 2022-2023 school year. Our staff has worked diligently over the summer to plan lessons, prepare classrooms, and ensure we are ready for the start of the new school year. The building truly does look wonderful and welcoming and we are eager for all of our Comets to ROCK this year! We hope the information below may address any questions you may have at this time.
Staff has given careful consideration to each child’s placement for the 22-23 school year. By doing so we have created classrooms that are balanced both academically and socially to help ensure each child’s success. Student placement letters will be emailed to families the afternoon of August 24th. If you have changed your email address or moved over the summer, please contact our office ASAP so we can ensure we have the correct contact information on file.
The first day of school will be on Monday, August 29th. This day is a half day and we begin at 11:30. We will not serve lunch or snacks on this day. I’ve attached door assignments below so your child will know where to line up daily. Please know staff will also be out front and visible to direct students as necessary this week. School-Aged Child Care (SACC) is available to registered families on this day.
To keep families abreast of Twain happenings, Comet’s Corner will continue to be published weekly and emailed home on Sundays. A list of important August/September dates may be found below in the meantime. You can also follow us on Twitter - #TeamTwain
In closing, please know the staff and I are here and look forward to partnering with you this year to ensure your child’s success! It is an honor and privilege to serve as your principal and I eagerly look forward to meeting each of you this year. Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at any time!
Sincerely,
Keith Tonn

Free & Reduced Meals
When the 2021-2022 school year ended, so did free meals for every student. While the federal government funded a program that allowed all students access to free meals during the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress has declined to continue funding this program.
- Parents should submit a free & reduced application to determine if they qualify for free or reduced priced meals.
- There is a carry over period (30 school days from the first day of school) where students can use their status from the previous school year. This ONLY applies to actual benefits, meaning not all students are free for 30 days to start the year because everyone was free last year.
- Meal prices will remain the same as they were pre-Covid (last time students had to pay).
- Elementary Breakfast $1.35
- Reduced Breakfast $0.30
- Elementary Lunch $2.35
- Reduced Lunch $0.40
- We will be using a monthly Meal Order Form. Parents must complete the Meal Order Form each month in order to receive breakfast or lunch. These should be submitted to the Meal Coordinators prior to the start of the next month.
- Fresh fruit & vegetable bars are back!
- All prepayments should be made ONLINE using the new Family Portal.
Please complete the 2022-2023 online application to find out if your family qualifies for free or reduced-price meals.
