February 1, 2023- Cosmetology Students Pamper The Early Childhood Students
10th Grade Cosmetology students took on their first clients. They were so excited to transfer the skills they learned in the classroom to performing them on actual clients.
February 6-10, 2023 BSU Student Leaders Spearhead Black History Spirit Week
What a week filled with fun, informational activities for the entire student body at HVT.
The week kicked off with:
Black Excellence Day- students and staff dressed in fancy attire.
Wraps and Hats- students wore wraps and hats as homage to the hip hop culture.
Black Celebrity Day- students dressed up as their favorite celebrity or wore a shirt recognizing that celebrity.
Shades of Brown- students dressed in different shades of brown to show the diversity of skin tones in the African American Culture.
Fro Friday & Black Curl Magic- students embraced their natural or manmade fros and curls.

February 13, 2023 DEI Committee Serves Local Children's Hospital
HVT Diversity Team partnered with Exceptional Care Children's Hospital in Newark, DE. The hospital provides care for medically fragile children from birth up until age 21. The diversity team was tasked with making Valentine's Day Card Holders. The team jumped right on board and got the job done in time for delivery the day before Valentine's Day. The team is looking forward to supporting this wonderful organization in the future.

Students spent the week participating in their school based career competitions.

Culinary Student Mia Alexander chose Chef Carla Hall to Research
Carla's journey started as an accountant and not a chef. She later went on to model in Milan and London before pursuing her Culinary career.
Early Childhood Students Alyssa Henn & Sara Malik Researched Ruby Bridges
In 1960 at the tender age of 6 Ruby Bridges became the first African American student to integrate an elementary school in the south.

Father & Daughter Set The Morning Atmosphere
Yancey Hollis & Asst. Principal Hollis graced the entire student/staff body with beautiful music at the start of the school day. A rendition of Life Every Voice & Sing echoes hope throughout the mall area. Job well done Hollis Family.
Hodgson Silver Eagle Cheerleaders pumped us up prior to the start of period 1/2 with Black History inspired cheers.

February 17, 2023 Winter Ball
In traditional fashion, Student Activities Coordinator Lisa Jackson made it happen again for Hodgson students who wanted a winter ball. She went in to high gear pulling out the stops to make it happen. From the decor, to the photo booth and slushie machine, students had a ball. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to chaperone and make it an enjoyable night for our students.
February 23, 2023 BSU Kickback Event
BSU had another successful after school event. Students began the afternoon with board games and a competitive game of family feud. After their bellies were full of pizza, students were treated to the sweet sound of Arin Wilson & her viola. Arin integrated entrepreneurial lessons in between sets, and took questions from the inqusiitive students.
February 23, 2023 National Honor Society Induction
Huge Congratulations to Miss. Erb who hosted her first National Honor Society Induction. We all know the amount of work it takes to fill Kelly Bench's shoes after her long dedication to the organization. Gracefully Mrs. Bench served as the keynote speaker for the event... and pledged her ongoing support to the students and Miss. Erb.
