Spring Break: March 24-April 2nd

Attendance Matters!

We would like to thank our families and students for continuing to make coming to school EVERYDAY and ON-TIME a priority! You are making excellent choices that affect the futures of our students.

This is the time of year when winter takes a toll on school attendance. Fluctuating weather can keep parents from getting their children to school. So can the colds, fevers and earaches that often come with the winter months.

These absences, even if they are excused, can add up to academic trouble. If it is a cold or rainy day students miss out on learning if they aren’t in class. These absences can result in lower test scores and grades.

There’s not much we can do about the weather, but there are two key steps every family can take to help avoid absences this year.

1. Develop back up plans for getting your children to school in winter weather. That could mean checking with other families who have a car that can manage in the cold or forming a “walking school bus” to walk your children to school with other parents.

2. Keep your children healthy. Dress them warmly for the cold weather and make sure they’ve got hats and gloves. Encourage them to wash their hands regularly, and send them to school with a bottle of hand sanitizer. If your children do get sick, talk to a doctor or the school nurse about whether they should come to school and when it is okay for them to return.

Above all, let us know how we can help. We want your children and all our students to succeed. And that means attending school every day possible.

Thanks for doing your part and making sure students get to school daily and on-time!

Standard School District's Teacher of the Year - Mrs. Haislip

It is our honor to present Standard Elementary’s Teacher of the Year for the 2017-18 school year, Mrs. Sharon Haislip. Mrs. Haislip came to Standard in 2000, after teaching 7 years in Arvin. She has taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, a combo-class and intervention classes. She has served on numerous committees, as well as having taught an English class for our ELD parents, summer school, Parent Project, is curently liaison to X-Factor, BTSA mentor and participated in parent education nights. Mrs. Haislip has been a district curriculum trainer and presenter. Mrs. Haislip is an integral part of Standard Elementary, and the Standard School District.

Not only is Mrs. Haislip an active member of the School Site Council, District Advisory Team, PBIS Leadership Team, a TIPS Mentor, and the X-Factor Teacher Liaison, but she was also a true team player during the 2016 Bond Election in helping with phone banking and encouraging our voters to pass the bond. As a result, she is now on the team to work with architects and builders to create a renewed campus for Standard Elementary.

Mrs. Haislip’s impact on the students, staff, and community will be long-lasting. She has a heart unparalleled in grace and compassion for the work in this community and in education. We could not be more proud of her representing our school as Teacher of the Year, and our district as District Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations, Mrs. Haislip!

ELPAC Assessments

This month was a busy month at SE. We have just completed our ELPAC testing. This test has replaced the CELDT test for English language learners. We had about 60 students take part in the test. We will get our results by the beginning of next year, if not sooner. The new test was similar to the CELDT test with one exception, there was a individual speaking portion. I am very proud of how SE students put forth their best effort and I am really looking forward to seeing the results.
