San Onofre School Newsletter 2021

October 2021- Principal Lillian Perez

Welcome October 2021

Coffee and Conversation:

We will have our first virtual meeting with Mrs. Finkle and Mrs. Perez on October 8, 2021 from 8:30-9:00am. You can learn more about our counseling program and all are welcome to attend. Here is the Google Link

Parent-Teacher Conferences:

Our school has developed school-level WIGs Wildly Important Goals and your child has also developed their personal goals. Parent-Teacher conferences are a great time to learn more about your child's academic progress. As we gear up for Parent-Teacher Conferences, here are a few questions you can ask your child's teacher:

1. How do you best prefer to communicate with me? (Email? Phone? Text? Notes?)

2. What do you see as my child’s strengths?

3. What do you think are the academic challenges for my child?

4. What would you do if my child were struggling academically with something?

5. How is my child doing socially?

6. Is my child on grade level for reading? What about math, science and writing? What can I do to support my child in school?

Red Ribbon Week is October 25-29th

More information to come from Lighthouse Team in the weeks to come.

San Onofre School is a Lighthouse School

This year we will continue to build leadership skills at San Onofre by teaching the 7 Habits of Leadership. Students are creating leadership binders, working on character development, earning "Caught Being a Leader" tickets, and working towards building this school to be the best it can be. We are so excited to help students build their strengths and skill set. This year we will be recertified as a Lighthouse School. For more information go to

Innovation Lab News

Investigate * Create * Innovate

San O Families, it is my greatest hope that you have already heard a little about the Innovation Lab this year from your student! But just in case you haven’t, let me share with you some of the exciting things that have been happening. My name is Brittni Rudolph and I am the Innovation Lab Instructor at San Onofre School for grades Tk-6.

At San O, every student has weekly access to the lab, where the primary focus is on supporting the students’ understanding of their Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Currently, the lab is abuzz with students investigating:

TK: 5 senses

K: living vs. nonliving

1st: plant parts’ structure and function

2nd: landforms

3rd: force

4th: motion and energy

5th: matter

6th: cell systems
