Murphy Celebrations
General Updates and Important Information
Spirit Days
Remember, Mavericks, you're where you belong...make us proud! Every week, we have TWO spirit days...on Wednesdays, we promote colleges and careers. Feel free to wear your favorite college or career shirts/hoodies/sweats for the day. And of course, Fridays are always Maverick days...wear your favorite Murphy Maverick gear or red/black/white. We're excited to see everyone in this together!
REMINDER: Cell Phones/AirPods/Personal Devices:
Students: The Junior High district policy is that cell phones are off and out of sight from 8:10am-3:10pm. Cell phones and other personal devices will be confiscated if they are in sight during the school day. Consequences may be issued. So far, so good!
Parents: Please be sure to have a discussion with your student regarding cell phones and other devices during the school day. Our focus on academics is a priority and the use of cell phones for personal use takes away from our focus. We appreciate your understanding. If you need to reach your student, it is important that you contact the main office to share a message. We can get that message to your child.
Student Rights and Responsibilities Form:
The student Rights and Responsibilities form is LIVE in TylerSIS. Please be sure to read through the expectations and sign the form.
Lockers and Backpacks
Students will be issued a school locker with a provided locker combination. Lockers can be used to hold personal and academic items during the school day. Backpacks can be used during the day, however, please remember that classroom aisles should remain clear for safety and that your backpack should only carry items needed for your specific class or few classes. When schedules are released, it is always a good idea to look at your schedule to figure out when the best times are to go to your locker to switch out needed materials for class. Remember, passing periods are four minutes and should be used to move safely and quickly from class to class, or to utilize the restroom if needed.
PE Lockers and Backpacks
Student backpacks do not fit well in PE lockers. It works best for students to keep their backpacks in their academic lockers to avoid leaving their backpack out, unattended, and unsecured in the locker room. Our teachers are working with the students to help develop the habit of keeping the backpacks in the academic lockers prior to coming to the gym.

Murphy Career Day
Hello Murphy Jr. High Community,
Several years ago, our school organized a career day where parents from a variety of professions came to school to discuss their careers with our students. We would like to provide a similar experience for students this school year as well, and we need your help. We are looking for anyone interested in visiting the school to share their career with our students. Presentations would be 20-25 minutes each, focusing on the duties of the career as well as the preparation needed (i.e. high school classes, vocational training, community college/university). If you are interested in helping our students learn more about your profession and you are available the morning of October 7th, please fill out the form linked below and we will reach out.

Thank you in advance,

AVID Maverick Market
The Maverick Market, our school store, is opening soon! Our AVID students are working diligently to prepare for the grand opening! The store gives all students opportunities to cash in their Bullseyes that are earned for making good choices throughout the week. However, we need your help!
We are respectfully asking for donations for the following items:
Individually wrapped small sized candy (jolly ranchers, mints, etc.)
Gift cards in smaller dollar amounts ($5, $10, $15) to places like: McDonalds, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Five Below, etc.)
Small fidgets (stress balls, rubix cube, putty, or other sensory items)
Mechanical pencils or fun writing utensils
Other items you feel would entice our diverse student population to continue to employ strong character within our school and community.
Disclaimer: At this time snack items and gum should not be donated.
We thank you in advance for your generosity in regards to stocking The Maverick Market! We cannot wait to see your student there!
Sincerely,
The AVID Team
