Weekly Reminders January 25-29

Raven Homeschool, Juneau Office

A Note from your Teacher

I had a wonderful visit with my Dad in Portland. I’m now in Tennessee and am very tired from the difference in the time change, missing a flight, and having my luggage lost. Nevertheless, I am enjoying the positive energy and new information I’m gleaning. Did you know the word curriculum comes from the Latin currere, which means a course to be run? This little fact was news to me. What is interesting about this is that curriculum is not only materials, but rather a course or journey to be traversed. Every element in life can be part of a child’s curriculum!

I want to thank those families who have already submitted quarter two progress reports. May these words encourage you, “Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny.” Ralph Waldo Emerson ~Theresa

Holly and I are eager for Theresa's return to the office next week. We missed her! Quarter 2 grades, work samples, and progress reports are due at the end of this month. Let us know if you need help submitting them. ~Joan

Coming up this week...

Tuesday, Jan. 26th, 2-3:30pm

During this activity lead by Theresa, students 6th-12th grade collaboratively think of a character, either animal, human, or make believe, that they would like in a story. Working with a partner, they creatively solve problems to make their character from “found” materials. Construction and embellishment make the characters come alive. Please RSVP to juneau@yksd.com.
