From Mr. Baker, Principal

Hello Ankeney Families!

It is hard to believe we have almost completed the end of the first quarter of the 2022-2023 school year. Our students and staff have been doing an amazing job this quarter! Throughout the first quarter, we have loved getting to know our students and have been working towards kicking-off this year's district character education theme - "Orange and Black on a Mission". Our focus on character education is one of the things that truly makes our school and district a great place to learn and grow!

In the next couple of weeks, we will be sending more information regarding parent-teacher conferences which will be held during the last week of October. Teachers will be sending out links for parents to request a conference soon. First quarter grades will be accessible through ProgressBook on Friday, October 21st.

We are very thankful for all you are doing at home to make this a great school year. If we can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact your student's teachers or myself. I hope you enjoy looking through our October Newsletter to learn more about all the great things coming up at AMS!

Go Chargers!

Sincerely,

Josh Baker

Did You Know??? - ProgressBook

One of the best ways to stay informed of how your student is doing at school is to log into ProgressBook weekly. Teachers utilize this program to record student grades, make comments on projects, and report quarterly grades. At the end of each grading period, parents are able to see their child’s final grade in each of their classes as we no longer send home printed report cards. You can also set up parent alerts that let you know when your child hasn’t turned in an assignment or received a low score. Access ProgressBook via the “Check Grades” link under “Parents” at gocreek.org.

Charger Store

Students have had several opportunities to shop in the Charger Store on Fridays to redeem stamps they have earned by showing the “Charger Way” throughout the school day. We want to recognize the many businesses that have donated items as prizes so far this school year. If you have any ideas for places we should contact or if you have items you would like to donate to our Charger Store, please contact Mr. Shimko at brian.shimko@gocreek.org.

Any concerns about Dress Code should be directed to an administrator.
  • Students can be dropped off between 7:00-7:25 a.m. in the Back Parent Loop behind the building entering to the far east of the building. Please have students exit along the curb and proceed to Door 14W. We do not have supervision for students prior to 7:00 a.m.

Awesome Classrooms

Students in Ms. Clark's 6th-grade art classes ventured out to the wooded land lab this month to combine nature and art! The leaves they gathered were used to create unique compositions which were then enhanced with oil pastels and watercolor. Students utilized their knowledge of color theory and experimented with 6 different painting techniques resulting in stunning works of art! Check out some pictures below!

Book Fair

Give the gift of reading! Scholastic Book Fairs will return to Ankeney the week of November 7-11. Our fair will provide a variety of books specifically selected to appeal to middle school interests. Students will visit the fair through their ELA classes.

Cash and credit card will be accepted as payment for items purchased at the fair. Scholastic also offers the Book Fair eWallet. You can create an eWallet for your student at Ankeney's Book Fair Homepage from October 17th - November 11th. Similar to loading money on your student’s lunch card, eWallet

  • is a great alternative to sending students to school with cash;

  • is easily funded using a credit card, and parents can set a spending limit;

  • saves any remaining funds to a gift card balance that can be used online with

Scholastic or to fund an eWallet for a future Book Fair; and

  • is a convenient way for extended family members to fund student accounts.

Once again, we will have an All for Books Giving Tree. All proceeds will be used to purchase books for Michael’s House, a treatment center in Greene County that provides a coordinated team response to child maltreatment (abuse and neglect) through prevention, education, and advocacy in a safe and healing environment. Scholastic Book Fairs® will match All for Books donations with a donation of up to $1 million in books from The Scholastic Possible Fund, which distributes books to children through organizations such as the Kids In Need Foundation, Reader to Reader, Inc., and the National Center for Families Learning.

If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our Online Fair at Ankeney's Book Fair Homepage. Our Online Fair will be available from November 7th to November 20th. All orders ship to your home, and book-only orders over $25 ship free.

The Online Fair:

  • includes an expanded selection of books for all ages — from preschoolers to adults;

  • allows you to shop by author, reading level, grade, and price;

  • provides a chance for you and your child to create and send wish lists to friends and family so they can shop at our school’s Online Fair; and

  • is open for an extended time, giving you more days to shop.
