I have worked as an the Education Specialist/Assistant Director of the Kodiak Child Development Center in Alaska. My hobbies include walking my dogs, camping with my family, hiking and being outdoors. I am apart of the Strand military community and am very happy to meet everyone!"
Farewell Mrs. Moira and Welcome Miss. Luca!
Mrs. Moira began working under my supervision in August of 2017. She worked as the Crown "Specials" Teacher from 2017-2018. The following year she served at the preschool offering inclusion classroom support as well as taught for a Crown preschool teacher while she away on maternity leave. This past year she helped open up our Strand afternoon session.
Mrs. Moira last day will be Thursday, December 19, 2019. She will be missed!!!
Meet & Greet Miss. Luca
We would like to invite all preschool Strand families to a meet & greet Ms. Luca, your child's new preschool teacher starting Monday January 6, 2020! If available, please come by your child's preschool class this Thursday December 19 from 4:15 - 4:45 pm. See Miss. Luca's biography attached below. Miss. Luca was selected from a panel that included a former Strand preschool parent to ensure the right teacher was selected. We are trilled to have her!
Soccer Shots
We would like to offer an after school, fee-based, extra curricular activity called, Soccer Shots.
Soccer Shots is an engaging children's soccer program with a focus on character development. They offer a great coaching, communication and curriculum in their program. This program is successfully implemented at ECDC and we would love to extend this wonderful opportunity to our students at Silver Strand Preschool. The cost is $55 per month, per child. You can pay weekly or monthly for this program, if you choose. The classes will be offered one day per week in the afternoon from 3:15 pm - 4:00 pm.
Please use the link below to indicate your interest in the program. We need at least 8 students to conduct the class. If you are unsure of your interest at this time, the preschool will be inviting a Soccer Shots representative to visit Strand Preschool families in January to answer any questions.

Crown Corner
Welcome Mr. Pete to Crown Preschool AM Extended Care!
Dear Crown Preschool Families,
Hello, my name is Peter Barkas. I am so excited to be joining the Crown Preschool team. The positive energy and warm, family friendly environment really appealed to me as an educator.
I have been a preschool teacher, after school care provider, and physical education instructor for nearly twenty years. I love teaching kids about healthy choices and physical fitness. I also enjoy making learning fun and hands on. I encourage kids to be independent and active problem solvers in their own lives. I believe that every child is a unique individual and will do my best to nurture their strengths while also giving them opportunities to continually grow.
My family and I recently relocated to Coronado from Sonoma County. My wife is a school administrator and also loves working with kids. My ten-year old son is attending Village Elementary. He has already made some great friends and loves our new beach lifestyle.
In my free time, I enjoy camping, hiking, biking, going to the beach, and traveling. A few of my favorite places are Zion National Park, Mount Rainier, and Yellowstone.
I look forward to getting to know each of you and your children.
All the best,
Pete Barkas
Safety Reminder: Crown Preschool Families
Please do not park or leave your vehicle unattended in the yellow curb in front of Crown Preschool! This area is a turn-about that needs to keep moving! Because preschool students must be signed into preschool daily, families need to park in the neighborhood or an actual parking space in front of Crown Hall. Police may motor this area and have given citations.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Illness at Preschool
It's the time of year our preschoolers may become sick with a cold and or flu. Please keep your child home when they are contagious with an illness such as fever, vomit, or diarrhea for a period of 24-hours symptom free.
Families can also help reduce the spread of germs by reinforcing at home our preschool hand washing steps. The 6 steps are:
- Get hands wet
- Get soap
- Lather hands for 20 seconds
- Rinse all soap off
- Dry hands
- Turn the faucet off with a paper towel
Check out the poster below to help your kids be a germ-buster too!
Please Sign Your Child In Everyday
- Please label all outer clothing as cool mornings turn into hot days
- On that note, please dress your children appropriately for the hot weather
- Make sure to check backpacks each night for important communication or classroom work

- Fill out an absence request form every time your child is out.
