Billy Newman Photography Exhibit
The Inner Life of Ice
January 12, 2017 – February 28, 2017
Bio
ARTIST BACKGROUND
Billy Newman discovered his love for photography in an eighth grade writing class while working on a research paper about the Chattahoochee River. He wanted to include photographs, so he set out on the river with a Kodak instamatic camera in hand. When the prints came back, he was awestruck and knew his life had changed.
Newman went on to thrive at Brooks Institute of Photography where he majored in Color Technology. He later opened a custom Cibachrome photo lap, but still his first love was photographing images in nature.
While laying atop a frozen creek photographing trees and plants in North Carolina, Newman found himself behind icicles and aimed out into the setting sun. Golden light radiated through the ice, and what he saw in the viewfinder sparked his passion for ice photography. Creating beautiful images by combining water, a cooler, sunlight, food dye and a camera, the Inner Life of Ice is sure to show images you have never seen.
Thomasville Center for the Arts is pleased to introduce you to the second in a series of educational exhibitions housed in our beautiful historic building. Our goal is to educate the youth through the lens of art.
