The Westmoreland Wrap Up
A Special One Book One School Edition
ONE SCHOOL ONE BOOK 2023!!!!
Today at our school wide assembly, the title of our 2023 One School Book Project was revealed!
As part of our reveal, teachers dressed as "candy"! Upon entering the gymnasium, students received a secret red envelope. 19 lucky students opened paper chocolate bars containing a golden star. Students who received these golden stars played candy themed minute to win it games! Each winner revealed words on enormous lollipops to spell out our book's title CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY written by Roald Dahl.
Our whole school screamed and cheered with excitement for their classmates and peers who competed in each game. Our excitement to take this reading journey together could be felt school wide.
As explained to the students during today's assembly, please follow the reading calendar for each night. Each night's reading should not take more than about 15 minutes. Students are not expected to read this book alone, as it may be too difficult or not yet match their individualized reading level. We encourage family members to read chapters aloud to their child(ren) and enjoy a few minutes of reading together each night.
Each day, our hallway display will grow to include items from the previous night's reading. The students love to walk past the display and see if they can locate the item(s) that have been added. Daily trivia, over the loudspeaker, will get our brains warmed up each day and students and staff will all be buzzing about Charlie and his candy factory adventure!
Last but not least, a HUGE thank you to The Westmoreland PTO for continuing to sponsor this annual program. Your membership dues, support of book fairs and fundraising efforts allow the PTO to purchase books for each family. We couldn't take our students on this collaborative and amazing journey without YOU! The PTO is planning a fun movie day to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the big screen in February. Stay tuned for event details!
Thank you for sharing our excitement for this project. We hope reading this book alongside your child brings back memories of reading your favorite stories as a child. Your support at home is always the CHOCOLATE icing on the cake!
Happy READING!
