Claysburg-Kimmel Weekly Update
December 23 *Merry Christmas*
Dear CK Community:
This letter is to inform you that, the Claysburg Kimmel School District Board of Directors has approved the recommendation to return to a hybrid based face-to face instruction model beginning on Monday January 11th.
It is our goal to return to in-person hybrid instruction while still complying with the mandates put in place by the state on November 23, 2020. With these mandates comes the likelihood of a return to virtual instruction at any time with very little notice based on the number of cases in each building.
It is extremely important that parents have contingency plans ready in the event one of our buildings is forced to shift back to virtual instruction.
Return to School Plan
Monday January 4 to Friday January 8th
- Students Remain in Virtual Instruction Mode
- Winter Sports may begin (pending state approval)
Monday January 11
- Students Return via the Hybrid Model we started the school year.
=====================================================================
HYBRID MODEL
Grades K – 3 will attend school every day (5 days a week)
Grades 4 – 12 will attend school 4 days a week
Student’s “Virtual Day” will be determined by their last name.
- A – Cla (Off Mondays)
- Cle – G (Off Tuesdays)
- H – Ma (Off Wednesdays)
- Mc – Ri (Off Thursdays)
- Ro – Z (Off Fridays)
CTC students - GACTC classes will continue online at home five days per week until the GACTC reopens for in-person instruction at a later date.
Return to School Mandates
School Districts must operate under the following guidelines:
- The Updated Order of the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health Requiring Universal Face Coverings, including necessary exceptions and associated guidance, and
- The Rules for Pre-K to 12 Schools Following Identification of a Case(s) of COVID-19.
School Closures Targets Following a Case of COVID-19 Within a14-Day Rolling Period
-2-4 students/staff in the same school building identified
- Close school for 3-7 days
-5+ students/staff in the same school building identified
- Close school for 14 days
====================================================================
Families should be prepared to shift quickly to remote learning with very little notice.
After any closure, the building’s case count will reset to zero, and a new 14-day window will begin. Cases are not counted if the COVID positive or probable individual was not physically present in the school setting while infectious.
You can assist us with keeping our case counts low by completing daily temperature and symptom screenings at home prior to sending your child to school, keeping symptomatic children home, and following all quarantine instructions, when applicable.
Reminder: Face coverings continue to be required at school and on school district transportation.
We wish you a happy and healthy holiday season and look forward to seeing your child in school in the new year.
A Superintendent's Christmas List
Dear Santa:
In spite of all that has happened this year, I'd really like you to work some magic to see I get everything on my list. As the old saying goes, you don't get what you don't ask for.
#1 - Since March, my students have had a really tough time with their schooling. They've suffered through face-to-face, hybrid, and remote learning models. They've been forced to watch their teachers on a computer screen for hours each day in an attempt to be proficient in the State's eligible content and standards. They've missed out on many of the activities that makes a student be a student. Santa, I'm afraid we're losing them. The first item on my list is for you to allow our students to return to a normal school experience as soon as possible.
#2 - Dealing with this virus has been exhausting on my staff. They've gone above and beyond my expectations to do their best to see that each student receives the education they deserve. It hasn't been easy; they've had their share of successes and failures. Santa, the second item on my list is to give my staff the strength to continue. The work they do is so important but they're getting tired.
#3 - During this pandemic, the community has been especially patient, cooperative, and understanding with the school district. They've tolerated the changes in our daily routines, accepted the health and safety precautions we've instituted, and supported us in about any and every way they can. Worse yet, the virus has caused many illnesses and deaths in the community. Last, but not least, the third item on my list is to please give this community a reprieve from this terrible virus. They've suffered enough and deserve a special holiday in spite of it all. Give them peace and comfort during these difficult times.
*Thank you to PASD Supt. Mr. Zelanko for sharing this Superintendent Xmas List*
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New Cases this Week
Since last week's update, we were notified this week of 2 additional individuals within the district, that were identified as having COVID-19, showing symptoms, or quarantining due to a positive exposure. One at our high school and one at our elementary school. Since we were not in session there were no school close contacts. The Department of Health is notified when a case is brought to our attention.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work together through these challenging times.
