Owl of the Week
Last week, Trevor was awarded our coveted Owl of the Week award. Trevor's nominating teacher said:
"Trevor's effort has been outstanding in Honors Math IV the last couple of weeks. His test and quiz scores have improved dramatically. In addition, Trevor has worked diligently throughout the school year to start and develop the Esports Team at OECHS."
Congratulations Trevor! We will announce our next award recipient on Monday!
Say Something Anonymous Reporting System
At OECHS, we are committed to having a safe, secure and positive learning environment for our staff and students. To support this effort, we are happy to announce the launch of the “Say Something Anonymous Reporting System.” This program teaches students, teachers and administrators how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, of individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to say something to a trusted adult or use its anonymous reporting system.
The OECHS “Say Something” response team, administrators and staff have been trained in the program and will be helping our students learn how to use the system during trainings in school this week during seminar.
More information about the “Say Something Anonymous Reporting System” can be found on the OCS District’s homepage under “District Announcements.” If you have questions, please feel free to call the school at 910-938-6702.
Thank you for your support as we work together to promote the safety and security of our students and staff!
Coronavirus Information
Onslow Early College High School is committed to the safety and security of our students and staff. We are continuing our preparation for any situation which might impact our schools. OCS district staff remain in regular contact with the Onslow County Health Department and are working closely with school administrators and staff to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for our school community.
The most important thing to do now is continue to follow everyday preventive actions recommended by the CDC and Onslow County Health Department to help stop the spread of germs by practicing good hygiene, wash hands regularly, and staying home if you or your children are sick.
OCS also created a place for our community to get the most accurate and up-to-date school-related information. In the OCS Weekly Update, the school district shared information about, and a link to, the “OCS Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information” page. Housed on the district website, this page will include links to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Onslow County Health Department (OCHD), steps OCS is taking to prepare, and a school-focused FAQ.
You can access the page directly here: https://www.onslow.k12.nc.us/Domain/9099
The page can also be reached by clicking on the “OCS Coronavirus (COVID-19) Info & Updates” item under “Onslow County Schools in the News” on the district’s front page.
OCS is in close contact with the Onslow County Health Department and we will notify parents of any developments which may impact OECHS.

Counseling News
While character education is often taught in elementary school and re-enforced
through middle school, we often lose site of the importance of these traits in high school
by focusing on leadership.
For the month of March, I will be planning some activities that bring attention back to Responsibility and Trustworthiness and how they are part of good leadership. I will be encouraging the students to submit a brief essay defining one or both of these traits with an example of how these traits are crucial as a young adults in high school.
The short writings will be due March 17, voted on by the staff and the winner will receive lunch with friends.

Honors Math 3: All classes took a test last Wednesday on Unit 3. Students will not receive those tests back until everyone that was absent takes it.
