Monday Morning Bearcub Brief
Volume LXXVII--15 October 2018
"Every CUB stepping up, reaching out, moving forward!"
Kleb Kudos
Hey Bearcub staff and parents...can you believe that this week marks the end of our first quarter?!? While it doesn't feel like we are already there, the sweltering heat is (mostly) a thing of the past and there are rumors of cool weather on the horizon! Let's check out just a few of the things that mid-October brought us over the last week:
7th Boys: Steven Toups, Paul Darlington, and Isaac Lagarde
7th Girls: Daniella Mendez, Lizzie McGuire, and Kathryn Koonts
8th Boys: Gerado Mendez and TC McGuire
8th Girls: Ashley Alderette and Kristen McHugh
Once again congratulations to Coach Watson and her team on a fantastic Cross Country season!

District Meet Medalists
2018-2019 Kleb Cross Country Team
My second kudos goes to our wonderful PTO, who hosted our second annual Bearcub Bash. Our students had a great time dancing, playing games, eating lots of food, and covering Mr. Huggins with shaving cream! Our Bearcubs really enjoyed the event and we appreciate everything that our PTO does for our students and staff on campus!
Cubs of the Week
6th Grade - Emma Nordin
7th Grade - California Bond Mauro
8th Grade - Alex Ventura
Huggins Highlights
This week marks the end of the first quarter. Just like with progress reports, Friday is the last day for grades, but the actual gradebook pull for report cards will be on Monday, October 22nd at 11:59pm. Please make sure that every Bearcub has both an average and a conduct grade. As with the first two progress reports, please use the common conduct grading guidelines when entering conduct grades.
The week of October 22-26 is Red Ribbon Week. The theme for this year is Life's a Journey with the following dress up days:
Monday--Tropical Island
Tuesday--Disney Day
Wednesday--Safari
Thursday--Back in Time
Friday--Home to Kleb Spirit
Feel free to wear jeans on any of the days that you participate in dressing up for Red Ribbon Week!
Saturday, 10/27, teacher leaders (that's you!) have a great opportunity with the Teacher Leadership Development Summit! See the flyer below for details.
Teacher of the Week
Linda Petersen
I am nominating Linda Petersen for leadership, bravery, continuous learning, and building responsibility because she fearlessly leads our Social Studies department even from her hospital bed. Creating lesson plans, setting up Schoology and checking emails. Linda is tireless in her pursuit of excellence and responsibility.
From Ms. Solomon
From the PTO President
Hi parents! In case you missed it, we held a ‘virtual PTO meeting’ at Open House, but we did have some technical difficulties, so many of you did not get a chance to see it. Here are the highlights:
- New this year: register to follow our account on Remind so you can stay updated on events around school and ways to be involved: text @klebpt to 81010
- Please join the PTO! Your $10 membership ($5 for faculty/staff) makes a BIG difference in our ability to fund our giving projects, AND it gives us the ability to include you on email votes to help us decide on fundraisers and how we will use our money to best benefit the school and students. Help us hear your voice by joining PTO – envelopes are in the front office, or check your kiddo’s backpack to see if one is swimming around in there from the second week of school ;) Remember, PTO Membership doesn’t come with any expectations from you, aside from replying to a vote. Of course we’re happy to have you as a volunteer if you’re willing and able, but it isn’t a requirement for membership.
- Speaking of voting, we expect to send out our first general vote by email to PTO members before the end of the month. We will need to confirm our annual budget and our plan for this year’s giving project – make sure you’re on the list
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions/suggestions or if you would like to get involved/volunteer. You can drop notes in the blue mailbox in the front office, or message me through Remind. Thanks – looking forward to a successful year!

***If a student is absent for part of the day for a doctor appointment, their absence will be coded as Section 25 (temporary absence) if the student follows the following procedure: The student must return the doctor excuse to the Attendance Office immediately upon returning to school to receive the Section 25 coding for their absence.
If a student does not produce one of the items listed above within the allotted timeframe, that absence will be considered unexcused and counted toward their total semester absences.
Klein ISD takes attendance very seriously, and we want to see your child succeed at Kleb. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please feel free to contact the attendance office or your assistant principal.
