PACE sponsored Teacher Appreciation Week
Do you want to show appreciation for your child’s teacher, and you just don’t have the time, energy, or creativeness to make it happen? PACE is the solution!
We will be hosting a teacher appreciation week again this year, May 1st-5th. During the week we plan on providing the teachers with special treats each day, small tokens of affection, and gifts for each teacher at the conclusion of the week.
You can be involved in any way you choose: monetary donation, food, gift cards, gift baskets, or time and energy.
Please contact Beth Schneider 715.577.3878 to get involved in showing our teachers how much we appreciate them!
Looking for more parent involvement in making decisions for our school
There are a couple specific ways that parents can be more involved in their child's school. First is to attend the PACE meetings. We will be extending our Building Leadership Team work into our PACE meetings each month so that we can share building level data and involve parents in decision making that will directly impact our educational programs and systems. If you are interested in hearing more about what happens inside the building and more a part of the decisions that impact your children please attend the PACE meetings each month. Our next PACE meeting will be Monday, May 1st
Second is the Open House Planning Committee. Early in May we will be making plans for our start of the school year Open House Event. I will be looking for 3-6 parent volunteers to join this planning committee. If you are interested in helping to plan or if you simply have ideas that we should consider for the elementary Open House, please complete the Open House Survey below.

Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week - April 17-21, 2017
Wisconsin's Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 17-21, 2017. Schools, businesses, families, and individuals have two opportunities to test their emergency plans during statewide tornado drills on Thursday, April 20, 2017. These two drills (1:45 & 6:45 p.m.) are part of the annual spring severe weather campaign to encourage everyone in Wisconsin to be ready for possible tornadoes and severe weather.
According to the NWS, Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes annually. Last year, there were 16 touchdowns in the state.
At the elementary we will do our own tornado drill at 1:45 pm on this date.
News from our School Nurse Mrs. Hager
Are your kids ready to spring outside safely?
When it finally arrives in Wisconsin, spring happens quickly. Children and parents are ready to spring outside to enjoy warmer temps and outdoor activities. Your kids are now a year older, so equipment that once fit may not, and new safety rules may apply, so do a safety check.
In the garage and yard:
Check that all poisons are stored out of reach of children and pets. Common products that are poisonous to children include: pesticides, rust remover, gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, lighter fluid, lamp oil, antifreeze and windshield washer fluid.
Toys stored on high shelves encourage kids to climb unsteady structures to reach them. Pull them down and organize them so kids can find them.
Items like rakes, brooms and ladders can fall or cause tripping hazards. Make sure they are mounted on the wall or stored securely out of reach.
At the playground:
Check that the equipment is safe before your children start to play on it. Look for hazards such as rusted or broken equipment or dangerous surfaces. Report any hazards to the playground owner
Active adult supervision is key. Lack of supervision is associated with approximately 45 percent of playground-related injuries.
On bikes and wheeled vehicles:
Adjust Your Bicycle to Fit. Check the owner’s manual for your bicycle to determine proper fit.
Ensure a Properly Fitted Bicycle Helmet. Correctly fitted bicycle helmets have been shown to reduce the risk of head injury by 45%. Information about helmet fitting can be found on safekids.org.
Wear a helmet whenever you are on wheels. Helmets should be worn when riding all wheeled vehicles including skateboards, scooters and skates. Add elbow, wrist and knee pads for more protection.
Adults need helmets, too. The best way to protect your head is to wear a helmet. Parents, make it a practice to wear a helmet when you bike. It’s easier to convince your kids to stay safe if you model safety, too.
On bikes and wheeled vehicles:
Review pedestrian safety. Make sure your kids know to actively watch out for cars when playing outside or walking down the street. Teach kids to cross only at intersections, to look left, right and left again, to stay on sidewalks or paths, and to put phones, earbuds and devices away to stay distraction free.
When driving, be especially alert and slow down in residential neighborhoods and school zones. Be on the lookout for bikers, walkers or runners who may be distracted or may step into the street unexpectedly.

2nd Grade Field Trip to Cadott Citizen’s State Bank
Students have had presenters in class from the Cadott Citizen State Bank informing them about banking and ways to save, spend, and share money wisely. On Tuesday, April 25th, the boys and girls will be visiting the bank in Cadott to participate in “National Teach Students to Save Day.” Students will take a tour of the bank and listen to a story about saving money. We will be walking to the bank, and in case of rain we will ride a bus or reschedule for the following day.
