We are so excited to kick off the new school year in the Longfellow Library! We've had a few changes since last year, that I'd like to start off by highlighting. After working in the LMS Library for many years, librarian Matt Beall has retired. We wish him the best as he enjoys his next chapter in Athens, GA! Though we were sorry to see Matt leave, we are very fortunate to welcome our new librarian, Lisa Hedge, to the LMS family. Lisa joins us from Glen Forest Elementary, where she worked as a librarian for the last three years. Lisa brings a wealth of experience and passion to the position, and I look forward to working with her this year to further develop our library program.

To find out a bit more about this library program, we recommend exploring our library website and perusing our LibraryThing virtual shelf. The library website is the best way to find out about library events, new books, and research-related resources. Some other avenues we will use to communicate information this year: Twitter, bi-monthly newsletters posted in the KIT, and Blackboard. We can't wait to hear about all the awesome books that LMS students read over the summer! Just as a reminder, the Summer Reading @ Longfellow page offers information on required reading and descriptions of a wide array of fun reading challenges. In order to be considered for prizes for the FCPS Book Your Summer contest, students must submit their read cards by Wednesday, September 7th. To do this electronically (the preferred method), students can simply complete the form on this website: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BYS16 Alternatively, paper copies of the form may be submitted to a librarian. The same deadline applies.
