Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
Friday, January 22, 2021
Message from the Principal:
Thank you to everyone who responded to our survey. Based upon these numbers, opening up our in-person instruction to four days a week for those that would like that option seems promising. A final decision will be made early next week with letters being mailed home on Tuesday that describe in detail any changes and list your child's assigned cohort. Please note that new requests for in-person instruction will now not be entertained until the end of the 3rd marking period. Monday, February 1 would be the first day of the new schedule if confirmed.
Next week, students will experience a modified testing schedule. Each student will take an interim assessment for each class in their day. These assessments are designed to determine how much learning has occurred over the course of the first semester. Teachers will analyze the results, using the data to improve instruction moving forward. The school will also look at the data, identify any trends and look to provide remedial programming if warranted. The order and times for classes will be different to acomodarte the increased length of time for testing; please see the schedule below.
Our counseling department is gearing up for student course selection for the 2021-2022 school year. The Program of Study is completed and course descriptions are being uploaded into Naviance. Counselors will visit 8th grade students to familiarize them with the process at the beginning of February; the rest of the high school will follow suit. We anticipate all student course requests to be complete by late February or early March. The counseling department will be sharing more information soon.
Finally, we would like to formally introduce our 2020-21 Teacher of the Year - Kerri Crowley and Educational Support Professional of the Year - Kathy Dreger! Ms. Crowley is a world language teacher while Ms. Dreger is our nurse. We are super proud of both of them; they are most deserving of this recognition!
Have a great weekend!
In partnership,
Dr. Vivadelli
