A Message to PPS Families
as the 2019-2020 school year comes to a close
Dear Families of the Plymouth Public Schools,
Over the past few months, the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted everyone in ways we could never have imagined a year ago. In the Plymouth Public Schools, we have had to adjust very quickly to offer remote educational programming. The move to remote education has posed a variety of challenges as we migrated through the different phases outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). I want to thank you for your cooperation and patience as we have navigated these challenges. This letter is intended to provide information as we navigate the future of our education model for the 2020-2021 school year.
During a call today, June 19, 2020, with DESE Commissioner Riley, he was very clear that district guidance for the 2020-2021 school year will be shared throughout the summer. As a school district, we need to digest this information and develop strategies to address these guidelines. I would like to assure you that the Plymouth Public Schools will relay information regarding how our school district will address the educational requirements set forth by the DESE as soon as possible. Information will be communicated to families as follows:
Once the DESE communicates requirements for the 2020-2021 school year, the district administration will review and prepare detailed information that will describe how the Plymouth Public Schools will address these requirements. A plan will be sent to parents as soon as it is completed and ready for distribution. We will work diligently to get this information to you as quickly as possible.
Information will be communicated through all communication channels including email and appropriate social media that is promoted by the Plymouth Public Schools.
Due to the changes we have had to make to address Covid-19, we have had to amend our 2020-21 school calendar. The information that will be sent out will also include a school district calendar that will assist you in planning for the school year.
The year ahead will hold a variety of challenges for our entire school community. I am encouraged by the support throughout our community during these difficult times and I look forward to working with you to begin the 2020-2021 school year. A survey is being sent out to families to provide feedback on remote learning. This input will help inform the Plymouth Public Schools Reentry Committee as they make plans for the fall. Your input is vital so that we can respond and direct resources appropriately for the potential reopening of school in the fall.
Thank you for your commitment and support as partners in this endeavor and enjoy the summer.
Sincerely,
Gary E. Maestas, Ed.D.
