AP Book Study
AP's are asked to read the Introduction and Chapters 1-2 for November 5. In order to be prepared to discuss the readings at the AP meeting in November, please consider the following:
- Appendix A is a self-assessment about Facilitator Core Competencies. Consider your own strengths and areas of need as a team facilitator.
- What is an effective team?
- How can a functioning team positively impact students?
- What kind of leader do you want to be?

Update on AP Learning & Equity Walks: These walks will be for our Year 1 and Year 2 AP's this year.
Instructional Leadership
- sharing our site walkthrough feedback forms
- reflecting on our personal experience with conflict
- discussing PLCs and effective teamwork
- sharing the role AP's play in PLCs at each site
- reviewing a classroom observation scenario through the lens of our site feedback forms AND through the lens of systemic oppression
- reflecting on how our calendars demonstrate the importance of instructional leadership
I have loved receiving messages from many of you as you:
- consider revising your site feedback form to address the Sweetwater Essential Elements of Effective First Instruction
- revise your calendar to better support your goals
- practice your evidence-based feedback to teachers
- craft reflective questions that can push a teacher's practice forward in small, meaningful ways
I look forward to continuing these discussions on my upcoming site visits with you.

SLT Update
Knowing that only one AP from each site is able to attend SLT, we want to make sure that you all have access to the information that is shared. Your SLT should be bringing this information back to all staff members, but since you support various PLCs, it is important that you are aware of the direction we are heading.
Our SLT work this year is centered around the book Becoming a Learning Team: A guide to teacher-led cycle of continuous improvement and the continuous learning cycle that
is outlined.
All of the SLT resources are found in the SLT Canvas course. To join that course, please click here. Not only will you be able to see the slides that were presented at the first SLT in August, but you will also see that we have created a folder of PLC resources to support our work to transform PLCs into learning teams.

Teacher Leadership Book Studies
Teacher Leadership Book Study 2018-19 Information:
We are pleased to be able to offer 4 Teacher Leadership Book Study meetings. Each book study will be dedicated to a theme:
Teaching & Learning
Culture & Equity
Self-Care and Resilience
Social-Emotional Learning
Within each theme we will offer a selection of four books. Teachers who would like to participate will sign up by selecting the book they would like to read and the night they will attend the discussion. The first hour of each book study will be same-book discussions, meaning that people will group up for a discussion based on reading the same book. The second hour of each book study will be cross-book discussions so that we can talk about the book study theme and how each book contributed ideas towards that theme and how those ideas can impact teaching and learning at the classroom, school, and district level.
