First Grade 2015-2016
Note From the Teacher
This was a great and busy week in 1st grade! This week, in Reading, we worked on finding the main topic and supporting details. In Writing, we worked on using strong word choice in our writing. In Math, we began adding tens. In Science, we learned about American Symbols.
Due to the two snow days that we had, school will be in session on February 15th and March 25th.
February 22-26th, we are participating in a Stuck For A Buck Leukemia Society Fundraiser. Any student who donates one dollar will get to help us tape Mr. Brown to the cafeteria wall during lunch. Mr. Brown is looking forward to being "stuck for a buck", or at least our students are excited to see it happen!
Also, January 25-February 3 each building was challenged by People Helping People of Republic to host a "Souper Bowl" aka a soup drive contest between classes! The class that brought in the highest number of packaged soups in each building was awarded with Super Bowl-type snacks. Our grade level goal is to bring in a total of 100 cans!!!
OUR CLASS COLLECTED A TOTAL OF 71 CANS!!!! THANK YOU FOR HELPING A WONDERFUL CAUSE!
On February 12th we will be having a small celebration in our classroom to celebrate Valentine’s Day. This is not an official party sponsored by PTO. During this time we will exchange Valentines in our class. We have 18 students in our class. Please have your child address a Valentine to each of them and bring them to class on Thursday, February 11th. I ask that they bring them in the day before so I can help those who forgot to have valentines for friends too. Your child may bring in a decorated box or bag to collect their valentines in that day. Your child may also bring a sweet treat to share with the class if he or she would like to. If you would like to provide a drink or big snack let me know. Remember it must be store bought and individually wrapped. Parents are welcome to the party. It will be held from 1:50pm to 2:30pm. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
If you are interested in being a guest reader, please let me know! We would LOVE to have you! :-)
