What is it?
Diabetes is a disease that effects how your body uses glucose. Which ever type you have it means that you have to much glucose in your blood.
What Is Diabetes
Types
Type 1: The pancreas produces little or no insulin, a hormone needed to allow sugar to enter cells to produce energy. Usually appears during childhood. There is no cure but can be managed.
Type 2: The body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't make enough insulin. Appears in adulthood but can effect children as childhood obesity increases. There is no cure, but you can manage it.

Know Your Stuff!
Signs and Symptoms
- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Extreme hunger
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue
- Irritability
- Blurred vision
- Frequent infections
* See a doctor if you suspect you or your child have diabetes
First Aid Care
- Give the patient some sugar. May be a sweetened drink or candy.
- If they are unconscious lay on their side, do not give them anything to eat
- Obtain medical advice
- Observe ABC's
Have your blood sugar checked at least once a year to check that you haven't developed type 2 diabetes!
Prevention
Type 1 can not be prevented
Type 2 can be prevented by eating healthy foods, getting more physical activity and loose excess pounds. Medication is an option as well. A healthy lifestyle in both cases are essential.
