Senior 1 on 1 Counselor Meetings
Virginia Governor's School
Governor’s School is a challenging and enriching Virginia program designed for highly motivated students who are looking for a challenging summer experience. Programs are offered in Visual and Performing Arts, Humanities, Math/Science/Tech, Agriculture, Life Science/Medicine, and Mentorships in Engineering and Life Sciences. The selection process is extremely competitive. Most students selected rank in the top 10% of their class and have scored in the 90th percentile on standardized measures of ability or achievement tests. These residential programs run from late June to late July. Only students who are available during that time frame and whose records match these criteria should apply.
An evening information session for parents and students will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, in the Auditorium at Stone Bridge High School, 43100 Hay Road, Ashburn, VA 20148. Doors will open at 6:30 pm. This session is identical to the information sessions held at each high school and the Academies of Loudoun.
The information session will include:
- General overview of Academic and Visual/Performing Arts Summer Residential Governor’s Schools
- Application procedure
- Nomination process
- Auditions for Visual and Performing Arts students (local and state)
- Deadlines and other important dates
The information session will not include:
- Detailed information on each Governor’s School including curriculum/faculty
- Information on World Language Academies (Students apply for the World Language Academies through their high school World Languages department. Please see the department chair for more information.)
Seal of Biliteracy/Credit Through Testing
Registration for the fall session of Credit Through Testing (CTT) will open on September 9th and close on October 25.
Loudoun County Public Schools is pleased to offer our students the opportunity to earn the Virginia Department of Education's Seal of Biliteracy and language credit through testing. Students who are able to speak, understand, read, and write another language besides English may be eligible to earn the diploma seal of biliteracy and two high school credits in that language. Please see the brochure below for more information.
One way to qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy through LCPS is with our Credit Through Testing. Credit Through Testing is free to all Loudoun County Public School students and takes place in November. If you would like to participate in the fall Credit Through Testing window, please see your World Language teacher or School Counselor to get registered. Students are responsible for their own transportation to the testing locations.
JCHS will be offering Testing on November 7. Check in is 4:00pm and the test is 4:30-6:30pm. Students must register with their Wold Language teacher or School Counselor.

Interested in Architecture?
The architectural history major examines the historic development of buildings, landscapes, and urban form through critical analysis of social and cultural contexts. The urban and environmental planning major explores the impact that global urbanization has on the built environment and develops strategies of design, policy, and community engagement to ensure healthy cities for the future. The architecture major offers two pre-professional tracks: one that focuses on design process and development at the scale of buildings and another that is a design-thinking track addressing broader issues of creative design and entrepreneurship.

JCHS has created a team name “Team Payne” as a Memorial to our former SRO Deputy Payne. All proceeds to this 5k go to fund scholarships for continuing education. If you are interested in participating, you just need to click the below link and scroll till you see “Guardians of Education and Superhero Fun Run 5k” in Brambleton, VA. You register yourself as an individual for the 5k; when the form asks about a team, you just starting typing Team Payne (it should auto populate). It’s $30 until Sept 15, and after that the price goes up a little bit.

5th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest - January 18, 2020
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Xi Alpha Lambda Prince William County Chapter and the Ira Dorsey Scholarship Endowment Fund, Inc. proudly present the Fifth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Waterford Springfield, 6715 Commerce Street, Springfield, VA 22150. The theme of the contest is The Measure of a Man.
The contest honors the birthday and legacy of Dr. King, who was one of the most renowned Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Students interested in competing may register by completing the enclosed registration form, which includes a copy of the rules, requirements, and judging criteria. The contest is open to students in grades 9 through 12. Deadline for submission: A typed copy of the written speech and the Oratorical Contest entry form must be emailed to MLKOratoricalContest@gmail.com no later than November 30, 2019. The entry form must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian.
Contest Awards/Recognition: Upon completion of essay presentations at the MLK Oratorical Contest, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finalists will be selected by a panel of judges and given monetary awards valued at $500, $300, and $200 respectively.
