Piper Alpha oil Rig Disaster

We obtain oil from drills and wells in the ground. Oil is used for many different things including: transportation fuels, fuel oils for heating and electricity generation, asphalt and road oil, and the feedstocks used to make chemicals, plastics, and synthetic materials found in nearly everything we use today. There are advantages and disadvantages of oil. Two advantages are high energy density and easy to produce and refine. Two disadvantages are greenhouse gas emissions and pollution of water and Earth. A disaster including oil was the Piper Alpha Oil Rig Disaster. It was a North Sea oil production platform that began in 1976. There was an explosion on July 6 1988 that killed many people and the total damage cost was about 1.8 million dollars.
