MI State Board of Education Best Practice Strategies

The State Board of Education encourages districts to consider these best-practices strategies to create a more supportive learning environment for all students, including those who are LGBTQ. Districts should engage with their community to develop a process that works for all students.

Best Practices for Supporting LGBTQ+ Students Back to School Edition

Begin the school year by intentionally creating an inclusive environment for LBGTQ+ students in West Michigan. A welcoming environment creates a space where students feel safe, seen, and ready to learn. The Ottawa Area ISD in partnership with Out on the Lakeshore, has put together resources for our schools to use to make their school environments more inclusive and inviting for all students. Check out this Best Practices Handout provided by Out on the Lakeshore that might be helpful to you this year.

2023-24 MDE Virtual Trainings

The Michigan Department of Education is no longer including links to the recordings of previous sessions because they will be offering updated virtual sessions during the 2023-24 school year and want to encourage folks to attend those sessions.

A training calendar with links to register will be coming shortly. Priority will be given to school personnel when registering.
