WEEKLY NEWS HIGHLIGHTING OUR STUDENTS & STAFF
Preparation is key!
Our Transportation Department conducted school bus evacuation drills this week. These drills are held twice a year, in the fall and spring, to ensure students know how to safely exit the bus if there were ever an emergency — either through the front door, the emergency back door or the windows and hatches. Students also learn how to open the handles of the exits and what and where the emergency brake is. Even our littlest learners at Tiger Paw participated in the drills!
How a bill becomes law
Who is responsible for creating and appealing state law — the legislative branch, the judicial branch or the executive branch? Mrs. Everding’s third-grade class at South Elementary can answer that question! Students held a mock government to show what they learned about how the three branches of government work in Missouri. The answer, by the way, is the legislative branch.
Author Inspiration
"Keep a journal. Notice the world around you. Keep writing things down."
That’s the advice Author Ruth Vander Zee gave South Elementary fifth graders during a Skype chat this week. Vander Zee lives in California and is the author of “Erika's Story,” which is one woman's recount of the tragedy of the Holocaust. The inspiring book was a hit among students as they studied World War 2 this past quarter. Thank you Ms. Vander Zee for inspiring our Tigers!
Lunch Bunch Book Club
Ms. Gerard’s Lunch Bunch Book Club at South Elementary read the book “Wonder” and met each week to discuss it over lunch. April 11 was the final meeting so they celebrated with pizza!
Budding mathematicians
Kindergartners in Ms. Johnson’s class at North Elementary are working on their math skills by using number bonds.
Outdoor fun
North Elementary fifth-grade students are getting to the “root” of the problem during Tiger Time Agriculture this week. The weather was perfect for getting outdoors!
We're excited to have a Summer School EDventure with you! Course descriptions and registration instructions are available at www.ozarktigers.org/summerschool.

What's Cooking?
Think OHS ProStart class is just about cooking? No way! These students had to plan their own food truck business, including the marketing, advertising, menu, recipes and even estimated profits by costing out their recipes to determine the minimum they must sell a dish to cover the cost of food and overhead. Of course, once all that was done, students got to cook one of their recipes. Cupcakes, fried chicken, smoothies and home fried potatoes were a few of the things cooking in the kitchen this week.

OHS students, be sure to download the OHS Superfan App and earn rewards for attending OHS events!
