APS Reading Lists for Summer 2020
For Elementary, Middle School and High School Students
APS, in collaboration with the AHS Library Media Specialists and the Town of Andover Public Librarians, is excited to announce the 2020 selections for summer reading.
Andover High School
- All Andover High School students, including incoming 9th graders, are required to participate in this important activity. Students should be prepared to begin the school year ready to share their reading selection in English class and through H block. The focus of this work will be to assess student skills in ELA and to create a classroom community of readers and thinkers.

Why Read?
The summer reading program at APS is rooted in research that suggests summer reading should:
Promote a life-long love for reading informed by the power of student choice
Sharpen students’ reading and critical thinking skills
Give students an opportunity to start the school year by building community through a shared experience.
Promote students’ thinking about who they are as readers, as writers, as thinkers, and as speakers.
