Message from the Principal
Dear Advantage Arts Family,
I am excited that we made it to March. I have a few items that I want to bring up this week, including some vandalism we have found in the building, cell phones, traffic, and enrollment.
Over the last few weeks, there has been some vandalism done to our bathrooms. Students have drawn or scratched pictures on the stall walls. I have been able to fix these things, but the time and cost to fix this situation is unfortunate. I hope your students love their school building! We are doing our best to keep it beautiful. I know there are probably only a few students who are drawing on the walls, but please talk to your students about taking care of their school. As a team, we can keep our building an amazing place to be.
I appreciate the support with our morning traffic. We have amazing parents who have helped with the drop off in the morning. I want to remind everyone to use the crosswalk. Safety and efficiency are the number 1 goals of traffic in the morning. Using the crosswalk helps us accomplish both of these goals.
There have been a number of students with cell phones in the classroom or leaving the classroom to call or text home. We want to make sure we are addressing all of your students' needs in the office. They are always welcome to use the school phone to call home. This helps us prepare your student for your arrival, and so we can keep them in a more comfortable location if they are not feeling well.
That was a lot of information this week, but hopefully we can use that information to make our school an even more amazing place to learn and grow. I wanted to finish by saying how amazing our students and their families are here at Advantage Arts. Our enrollment is filling up quickly for next year, and we have some grades with only a few spots open, before we start our waiting lists.
I hope you all have an amazing week!
Mr. Kano
Art Integration Night
Wednesday, March 9th, 4-5:30 PM
Come see what our school is all about at Art Integration Night! This event is for people who are curious to see more about what our charter focuses on as well as those that want to get a little more of the arts in their evening. There will be stations set up by each grade with an art integration project for students and their families to try out. You can see how your students learn at our school by combining the core standards with the arts. We hope to see you there!
Violin Club Performace
This week we had our violin performance and these kids were amazing. You can see how much they have put into learning this art and we are so thankful they have!
Kindness Assembly
Also this week we were able to have former Miss Utah and the current Miss Herriman come and talk to our students about kindness! They shared information about what being kind means, how to handle if someone is being unkind to you or someone else and what a bully is. They also gave a lot of fun ideas for the kids to show random acts of kindness in life everyday and how to "Be The Good".
Reading Week
Thank you for participating in our reading week! We had so much fun with our guest readers, book bingo, dressing up in our favorite Suessville outfits, and our read- a-thon. We love Advantage Arts Academy Readers!
Sharing The Love of Reading
During our reading week some of our 5th graders were able to read to some of our Kindergarteners!
Center Stage
Kindergarten Nursery Rhymes
In kindergarten the students have been learning about rhyming words. They know that a rhyme is when two words end in the same sound. They learned multiple nursery rhymes and found the rhyming words. During art, they were assigned a nursery rhyme like Humpty Dumpty, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Little Miss Muffet, Baa Baa Black Sheep, or Jack and Jill, and illustrated the rhyme. Their illustrations turned out so fun!
1st Grade Books
In honor of reading week we read a book without any words during art time. We had to figure out what happened in the story solely based on the illustrations. The students loved looking at the pictures and figuring out what happened in the story. Then they were tasked with having to make their own book with no words. Ask your first grader to share their story with you!
2nd Grade Comics
In second grade students made their own comics in honor of reading week. They learned about the parts of a story including setting, characters, and plot. They imagined their own story and made it come to life with a comic strip. They will be finishing these up next week as well.
After School Clubs

HOWEVER, WE WILL BE HOLDING ART INTEGRATION NIGHT AT 4:00PM-5:30PM

On the day your student has club, larger instruments can be brought into the front office in the morning and must be picked up on the way to room 210.
