Literacy Connections
Literacy Links & Resources
December 11, 2016
This edition of Literacy Connections starts with some Secret Santa gift suggestions for those of you struggling with finding just the right gift! I've also included links to resources for helping students develop a growth mindset in learning and in life. Ideas for keeping the K-2 Word Wall relevant and new considerations for helping 3-5 readers recognize "just right" books with more agency are also included. Resources for upcoming 4th & 5th Grade Units of Study and some of my favorite holiday read aloud recommendation round out the newsletter.
Happy Reading!

Mindset for Learning Resources
Co-author, Christine Hertz, along with many teachers using Mindset for Learning in their classrooms, have curated resources (mostly books) that work well for teaching children about the five stances. Click here to access this resource.
Matt Halpern has curated short video clips for classroom use here. Each video is labeled with a stance, but most would fit multiple stances.K-2 Connections

Little Santa loves the North Pole. The rest of his family? Not so much. So, when they decide to move to Florida, Santa is miserable. Lucky for him, a blizzard foils their plans. The only way out of the house is up the chimney. Up goes Santa, to look for help, and along the way, he meets a reindeer and a large group of elves, who are more than eager to join in the rescue!
With the sly humor of Jon Klassen and the read-aloud pleasure of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, this tale of Santa’s beginnings is perfect for every kid’s holiday library.
