Forty Years of Service

Today it was a privilege to honor Darlene Morrison for forty years of service to Richards! She has touched the lives of countless children through the years with her generous heart, compassionate soul, and warmest hugs. Mrs. Morrison has also made Rocket history! She is the longest serving employee in Richards history. We are pretty sure, Darlene has green and gold running through her veins.

Million Word Club!

Congratulations to our new Million Word Club inductees! Jonathon Sherman, Gracelyn Young, and Mirriam Sykes (not pictured here) read one million words and earned a trip to the Book Nook to pick out a book and then spend some leisure time at the 10/40 coffee shop!

Mrs. Thompson challenged all her sixth grade readers to read a million words by the end of the school year. She is proud of all her readers; many achieved their individual goals, and have developed reading habits that will bring a lifetime of rewards.

7th Grade Architects Display Model Homes to First Grade

7th grade PLTW design & modeling students built model houses based off of blueprints they designed. They were to create homes that would be "play houses" for younger students.

Every product must be put through test trials. Fortunately, first graders were on hand to provide input on the house designs. The houses were to be as realistic as possible and made from recycled and/or reused materials.

Richards Awarded $100,000 School Safety Grant!

Governor Mike Parson announced 169 school districts and charter schools have received grants from the newly created School Safety Grant Program.

“Improving the safety and security of our schools is an issue we can all support, and these grants help ensure our schools remain safe environments for Missouri children to learn,” Governor Parson said.

The grant program aims to support school safety improvements, including physical security upgrades and associated technology in school facilities.

“Funding to support safety helps ensure schools remain among the safest places for our students,” Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven said. “These grant funds to support the physical safety of schools are an important part of ensuring our students have a safe environment for learning and growing.”

School districts and charter schools applied to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) through a competitive grant application process for a maximum grant amount of $900,000 for districts/schools with the largest student populations. See grant award totals here on DESE’s website:
