Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
September 21, 2019
Happy first day of Fall! Wish the weather matched the calendar a little more! Believe me though, in a couple of months we will be missing this weather!
Reflecting on the past week...
This past week felt like a reboot for the school year, and it was really great to have Bishop Malloy celebrate Monday's all school mass to help us do so! It makes so much sense... that in difficult times we turn to our rock and our strength, our Lord, to help us pick ourselves up and move forward. Hopefully all of you were able to pick up where you and your classes left off and were able to move forward, keeping our students on a positive and productive trajectory.
Mr. J. Price and Ms. Novy have begun stepping into a variety of classrooms to engage in the academics that are buzzing through our halls. It has been great to see a variety of labs being conducted, news casts in French, and preparations for interviews and projects. Thank you for continuing to keep our students engaged in rigorous and relevant activities that raise the bar of expectations. We are excited to see more!
Wasn't it nice to see our seniors dressed up this past week? It makes you realize that in no time they will be graduating, going to college, and then coming back to visit for Homecoming! Speaking of, please see information on the upcoming Homecoming festivities below... it's coming quicker than you think!
Thanks to the Student Mentors who, on Thursday, went into the freshmen homeroom classes to talk to them about getting involved, making a good impression, and what to expect for Homecoming. In addition, our juniors met with the Guidance department to talk about how to access SCOIR and completing the onboarding process. These are both important aspects of the student experience here at Marian and we appreciate our teachers' continued support for all of the ancillary activities that help to form our students.
And if you weren't aware, our Freshmen voted for their student council representatives on Thursday too! After several great speeches, congratulations to Declan Pivnicka, President; Charlie Fitzgerald, Vice-President; Jenna Ortega, Treasurer, and Nadia Hackman, Girl's Social Chair.
The week ended with a wonderful Grandparents' mass. Thank you, Father, for a wonderful homily reflecting on the impact that our grandparents make in our faith lives. There were many grandparents in attendance... and it was so nice to see our students visiting with them! Thanks to Mrs. Bordeaux and Mrs. Hirsch for providing a tour to grandparents as well!
What's coming up?
This week we have the following events:
Tuesday, Sept. 24
- 10 minute homeroom for seniors to vote for Homecoming Court
- Shelter-In-Place (Tornado) Drill Tuesday @ 1:45 pm... please see details below
- Financial Aid Night 6:30 pm
Wednesday, Sept. 25
- Noon dismissal ... so students do NOT have lunch. Marian will be providing lunch for all Staffulty in the cafeteria after students dismiss, and the inservice meeting will begin by 12:45 pm. Please click here for the agenda.
Shelter-In-Place (Tornado) Drill
A Shelter-in-Place response is used when an evacuation would place people at risk because of outside conditions. Sheltering-in-place provides refuge for students and staff inside the building during weather or similar emergencies. Students and staff move to designated shelter areas to maximize their safety. An administrator will announce over the P.A. system the initiation of a shelter in place situation. When a shelter in place situation is initiated:
1. Proceed in single file to assigned areas.
2. Maintain complete silence.
3. Move quickly but do not run.
4. Close classroom windows and doors. Close shades.
5. Teacher is last out. Take class roster and RED/GREEN laminated status room cards with you.
6. Students kneel facing hallway walls, heads down.
7. Students should use sweaters or hands to cover their heads.
8. Once roll is taken, immediately display either GREEN room card (if all students are accounted for) or RED room card (if a student is missing).
Please refer to the faculty handbook pages 52-53 for a complete list of where each room's assigned area is.
Have a wonderful week!

- Faculty will continue entering through doors 7 & 8.
- Students will continue to enter/exit either through the jock lot door #26 or the auditorium doors #7 & 8
- Visitors and late arrivals will continue entering through door #1, being buzzed in.
Hallways:
- Athletic commons area is off limits to all students. Please also note that in case of emergency, that direction is NOT A FIRE EXIT and, if need be, you should direct students through the aux gym.
- The hallway just past rm 230 and west is off limits.
