EC PTA Newsletter
January 2019
A Message from Heather Zoromski, PTA President
Hello EC family!
Welcome back! AND welcome to our new families who have just joined us after the first of the year! I hope that your holidays were fantastic and that everyone stayed warm! Speaking of staying warm, we had a great turnout at Ozark Mountain Gymnastics Open Gym event. Over 40 children came to play! Thank you to everyone who participated, and thank you to Mary Jo Williams, ECC mom, and owner of the gym, for hosting us! If you have any pictures from the event, we would love to have them for Facebook and the website. Please email them to nixaelcpta@gmail.com.
Your PTA board is working to plan and implement all Spring activities which will include the January Kindergarten Readiness meeting, Spring Parties, Spring Box Top Drive, Spring Book Fair and the March PTA Meeting where we will help Nixa Care to Learn pack hygiene kits for under-resourced students. There is really something for everyone to be involved with and we would love to have you!

Godfather's Pizza Night
A MESSAGE FROM DR. WILBUR
We are in full swing with 2019! It has been a fantastic start! It is going to be a busy spring, and the end of the year will be here before we know it. Be sure to be on the lookout for future communication regarding spring parties, parent-teacher conferences, and spring book-fair.
This year our focus has been on Conscious Discipline. Connection is a key component of Conscious Discipline. Parenting is a tough job! One way to strengthen your relationship with your child is through positive connections. Connection is as essential to us as it is to our children. Family therapist Virginia Satir famously said, "We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth."
Connection can be simple, and occur throughout the day. Take time to snuggle with your little one when they first wake up, and right before they go to bed. Turn off technology when you interact and be purposeful in making eye contact. Transitions can be a great time to incorporate an I love you ritual. See if your child can tell you their favorite one from school. Take a moment to give a big hug before you separate and when you are reunited. There are many ways to connect. Our Conscious Discipline resources recommend parents take five minutes a day to truly connect with those they love, especially when you or they have made a mistake and it feels like you are miles apart.
