Mrs. Embretson, January 15

Week at a glance...

Reading: I read some fiction books about building snowmen and a non-fiction book about what we can do in different kinds of weather. We practiced retelling a story and talked about cause and effect. Our new sight word poem introduced the word said. Your child should have a copy of it to read to you. "Take-home" books were also sent home today along with a note about reading with your child at home.

Writing: Our writing checklist is finished and we have been referring to it throughout the week to help us be good writers.

Math: We continued classifying things this week using picture cards and objects around the room. I am so impressed with the creative ways the kids came up with to sort things. We also practiced acting out adding and subtracting stories and identifying groups as equal or not equal.

Social Studies/Science/Health: We learned how penguins work together like a team to do many things: keep warm, keep clean, hunt for fish, and raise their babies.
