E-Learning
Thank you for supporting your children's learning while at home! Social distancing has presented many challenges in our world, and e-learning is just one of those challenges. Despite those challenges, it has been great watching and hearing about the learning that has been going on this week. Please know that teachers are working overtime to purposefully plan work for their students and to meet the individual needs of each learner and family.
As we move into the second week of e-learning, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns. You are also welcome to reach out to other staff for support including:
Andrea Burke (principal) - aburke@hse.k12.in.us
Rebekah Landez (assistant principal) - rlandez@hse.k12.in.us
Bethany Magill (counselor) - rmagill@hse.k12.in.us
Kristen Morgan (teacher librarian) - kmorgan@hse.k12.in.us
Again, thank you for supporting your children towards remaining engaged in learning and for your on-going partnership at home!

Hope to see you soon!

Due to the recent unexpected event and school closings, HPE Running Club and the Geist 5K will not continue as planned. The Geist 5K is planning to reschedule their race to be held in October. Plans for an organized HPE group to attend the Geist 5K will be considered at a later date. Thank you for your understanding.

BoxTops contest!
Please send in any clipped BoxTops for Education and label with your classroom teacher name. If you are using the new app and scanning your BoxTops, there is a new feature on the box top app. You can now enter a group name when scanning receipts to keep track of individual groups within HPE. Enter classroom teacher name, not child's, so scanned box tops can be tracked as well for the classroom contest. The class with the most clipped and scanned BoxTops will be awarded a pizza party in the spring! Runner up classes will receive extra recess!

Easy Ways to Help the PTO
Cut your Box Tops for Education and send them to school with your student at any time. Visit www.boxtops4education.com for a list of products.
If you shop on Amazon or at Kroger, check out these completely free and zero effort ways to raise money for the HPE PTO. The prices are the same, the service is the same, you shop the same way, but a portion of the purchase price will be donated to the PTO, that’s it!
On Amazon, just go to smile.amazon.com/ch/20-0114174 to link your account to the PTO and then check out using smile.amazon.com everytime--you cannot access this through an app so fill up your cart and then open a browser to check out or shop directly on smile.amazon.com.
For Kroger, login to your online account or create one using the Kroger Plus Card number you already have or get a new one. Then go to www.kroger.com/communityrewards and enroll in Community Rewards. Search for “VA241” and select “HARRISON PARKWAY ELEMENTARY - PTO.” Then scan your Kroger Plus Card or enter your alternate ID every time you check out just like you always have.

Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the Safe Visitor App (IPhone) or have your badge ready and available to be scanned when you come into the school office. The app is in Google Play for other types of phones. To find the Safe Visitor app, search for “SafeVisitor” (there is no space in between the words).
Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in. Upon leaving, please let the office staff know so they can sign you out.
If you have questions/concerns or need to have your badge re-emailed to you, please contact -Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
Volunteering and the Background Check Process
Parents/visitors to HPE must have a background check on file with the school (including watching the anti-bullying video and completing the video survey) in order to volunteer in the school or to have lunch with a student. The link for the background check information can be found on link below at https://www.hseschools.org/services/other/school-safety/visiting-and-volunteering
The background checks are conducted by a 3rd party company, and there is a $13.00 fee for processing (payable online at the time of the application). Once completed, approved background checks are valid for a period of 3 years. Applicants will be notified via email when their background check has been completed and they will also notify people 30 days before their background check expires.
