Thinking Summer
Message from Julie
Dear RISD Elementary Parents,
I can't believe how quickly May is moving! Can you?
We are super (!!!!!!!) excited for our all elementary school ROCKS celebration! We are looking for some volunteers to help out at WES on Friday, 5/24 from 8-3. The celebration is happening from 10-230. Melissa Goodrich and Irene Otis have done AMAZING things preparing this fabulous celebration. We could use some of our awesome parents to help out making the day go smoothly. If you are interested, please email me. I will also send a sign up sheet.
Are you getting excited for the Greatest Show - our end of the year concert on May 28 at 630PM at the Academy? Since parking was a bit of a nightmare at the holiday concert, we are going to try something new - optional busing from each elementary school. Bus will depart from WES at 530 and from SME at 545. We will be sending up a sign up sheet for this service - hopefully it will be helpful! You should receive it in backpack mail today or Monday.
A letter from the principal search committee:
Dear Rivendell Community,
The search for our new principals continues! We have invited Steve Lindemann to spend the day at the schools next Wednesday, May 22. He will meet with community members 5:30-6:00pm in the library at Samuel Morey. As with the previous forum, we will give him a chance to introduce himself and answer questions. All parents, community members and teachers are invited. Food and childcare provided. We strongly encourage you to meet Steve and share your feedback with us.
Here’s a brief bio:
Steve Lindemann started his education career teaching English to prospective baseball players, first in the Dominican Republic and then in the US working for the LA Dodgers. Shifting to elementary school education, he taught Kindergarten, 1st grade and 4th grade in Potsdam NY, before moving to VT and teaching 5th/6th grade math and science for 17 years. He became the assistant principal at Mary Hogan Elementary School in Middlebury in 2013 and served as interim principal this past year. He lives in Middlebury and is interested in relocating to the Upper Valley.
The committee is scheduled to interview one more candidate on Monday afternoon. If that interview goes well, we may add her to the schedule on Wednesday. Stay tuned. . .
Thanks so much for your help and patience with this process!

This year’s 6th grade class is hosting three fundraisers to raise money for their class trip!
On Saturday, May 18th from 10-1, stop by outside of Wings to get your car washed and buy some baked treats! We will accept all kind donations.
Need help with some yard work? Have an event to set up or break down? SME 6th graders are ready to help! Contact Melinda Ricker at melinda.c.ricker@gmail.com or Comfort Halsey-Leckerling at chalsey.leckerling@gmail.com. Choose what you pay, and all proceeds will fund the trip!
Flamingo Flocking has begun! YOU can participate in this fun and festive new tradition! Three flocks of pink plastic flamingos have landed in our three towns, and they may visit your lawn! Donations gratefully accepted for their removal! To send the flock to a friend (or just to learn more about it) contact Amy Kosakowski at akosakowski@rivendellschool.org

Any further questions? Call SME and ask for Mr. C or Ms. K or email Ms. K at sklinkenberg@rivendellschool.org
