Ms. West's February Newsletter

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all are having a fabulous start to 2016. I can't believe we are already into the month of February and have started third quarter!

Report cards will be coming home TODAY, February 1st. They will need to be signed and returned by Thursday, February 4th. The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd at 12:15pm. There will be an attachment to your child's report card if they are going to be receiving an award.

This quarter there is quite a few pieces inside your child's report card folder. It will contain: the report card, their second quarter test scores, the student score reports from Mastery Connect, and their writing test results from the end of second quarter. (The writing test was not taken as a grade.)

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's grades please let me know. I will be glad to meet with you or help you better understand if need be.

Jello Cells

These are pictures from our jello cells that we made on Thursday. This past week, we have been talking about cells in science. On Thursday, we made a visual of an animal cell using jello, gummy worms, M&M's, grapes, raisins, fruit by the foot, and jelly beans.

BONUS: Ask your child what each of the candies represented inside a cell!

Awards Ceremony

If your child is receiving an award it will be noted with a slip of paper attached to their report card. The awards ceremony will be on Wednesday, February 3rd at 12:15pm. I encourage you all to attend! Since it is an early release, if you plan on taking your child with you after awards please make your way down to where we are sitting after the ceremony. I am terrified of losing a kid, so your child's directions will be to stay put until you get down there and I see you. This prevents kids from taking off in fifty different directions and makes it easier on me. :)

Valentine's Day!

Since Valentine's Day is on a Sunday this year, we will be celebrating early.

On Thursday, February 11th we will use the last 15-20 minutes of class to pass out valentine's and celebrate. (I will not be there on February 12th so we have to do it a day early!) If your child would like to bring in valentine's to pass out, they may. However, they MUST have one for every person in our class.

I will supply bags for them to put their valentine's in and will even give out my own valentines! If anyone would like to supply cupcakes or cookies to do at that time, please let me know!
