SAS 5th Grade News May 1

Where faith and learning grow hand-in-hand.

Big picture
The Catholic Christian Community of St. Anthony of Padua welcomes all to our celebration of God's love. Through prayer, education, sacraments, caring and stewardship, we strive to serve the needs of God's people and to gain a richer understanding of the gospel message of love.

In the Classroom This Week:

Religion

We have begun Chapter 2: New Life in God. In this chapter we are discussing how in Baptism we are called to communion with God, who is love. There are many ways to answer God's call to love. We will discuss the four general vocations that we as Christians are called to follow.

Language Arts

Students are continuing their Daily Language review of grammar concepts, literary devices, and research sources.

In Writing and Grammar we will be getting back to using our blue workbook. Students will learn how to join two words and form a contraction using the word “not.”

Students will take Unit 16 Vocabulary Test on Friday.

Math

Students are going to be able to classify plane figures. We will be looking at how two and three dimensional objects with or without curved surfaces can be described, classified, and analyzed by their attributes. An object's location in space can be described quantitatively.

Please keep encouraging students to review in the Math Composition Notebook nightly.

Science

In Science, we took the final Chemistry unit assessment. This week we begin learning about the Earth’s four major systems. Students will be able to describe how human activities cause changes to the environment and affect Earth’s systems.

Social Studies

This weeks lesson describes the struggle to ratify the Constitution. It explains why the Bill of Rights was added and what it guarantees. Finally, it describes the early days of the new government.

Students are reviewing for their southeast states and capitals test Thursday.

Students will take their final states, capitals, and locations test on Wednesday, May 16. Students who have received 100% on all 4 tests will not need to take the final test on May 16.
