The Catholic Christian Community of St. Anthony of Padua welcomes all to our celebration of God's love. Through prayer, education, sacraments, caring and stewardship, we strive to serve the needs of God's people and to gain a richer understanding of the gospel message of love.

In the Classroom This Week:

Students are reading the first chapter in Growing in Love. We are reading about how being created by God is the basis for self-respect and respect for others. Men and women are different but complementary and equal in God's eyes. We are responsible for protecting and nurturing God's gift of life.

Language Arts

Students are continuing their Daily Language review of grammar concepts, literary devices, and research sources.

This week students will completing their final All-School Write. Students will be writing a response to Literature based on one book that they read this year. They will follow the five paragraph format they have been working on all year. Students will provide their opinion of the book, their opinion of a character, and a comparison to current events or another text they have read. (Other classes completed this last week, but since we were gone on a field trip, we waited until this week.)

Students will take Unit 15 Vocabulary Test on Friday.

Students began the 6th grade placement test yesterday and finished it today. We corrected it together in class. We will begin Chapter 16 in Math on Wednesday and will not have a quiz this week. Chapter 16 focuses on Coordinate Geometry. Students will be able to graph points on the coordinate plane and solve real-world and mathematical problems. There will be a Chapter 16 Test next Thursday, May 11.

Please keep encouraging students to play Mathletics at home when extra homework time is available. Playing educational games is a great way to help students retain information. It's always exciting to see a St. Anthony's student on the leader board!

This week in Science we will be observing and describing chemical reactions such as combustion, synthesis, and decomposition.

Social Studies

Students began presenting their state trifold yesterday. We will get through all presentations by Thursday this week. Any and all extra credit will be due on Thursday, May 4th. Students may wear their t-shirts that they made on Thursday as well. We will be sharing the food after recess (10:10) on Thursday.

Students are reviewing for their final states and capitals test next Thursday.

Students will take their final states, capitals, and locations test on Thursday, May 11.
