NEXT WEEK IS SPIRIT WEEK!
Hispanic Heritage Month Art Gallery
For Hispanic Heritage Month, students have been very engaged in learning about Latino Leaders who devoted their lives to social justice and to making positive change in our communities.
As part of the IB unit "How the World Works," students learned about these leaders' lives and causes, and about how each one worked to amplify their voice via grassroots movements. Students chose one of these leaders to research and then created a poster depicting what they learned.
We then spent some time learning about Día de los Muertos, and students drew sugar skulls, cut out papel picado, and made flowers for an ofrenda for the school.
The students' posters are now on display in a gallery that we created in the staircase off of the 4th and 5th grade wing, with the student-created ofrenda at the center of the space. Some students have chosen to honor loved ones and dear pets who have passed away by drawing their portraits for the ofrenda.
Every class has been taken to visit the art gallery on or after el Día de los Muertos - (which was November 2nd).
Ask your child to tell you what they learned and to describe their poster designs!
