A Reading Leadership Action Plan by Kara Farrell Menard
Goal:
To improve reading achievement through parent involvement and engagement. To create a 'we-we' approach to student learning, engaging students, parents, colleagues and the school community.
Motivation:
To realize the belief that all students can learn. To improve growth mindset for students (resulting in better school attendance and participation).
ACTION STEPS
Create Awareness
Use data to show student need in Reading. Provide resources to parents related to reading (materials, strategies, and time).
Bring Parents Together
Through a weekly social hour, parents can gain insight on strategies for reading at home with their children. Create a support network within the school community to support student reading.
Increase Volunteerism
Establish a program for Parent Volunteers to read with students at school. Provide an incentive (meet a parent need) to increase participation.
MILESTONES OF SUCCESS:
Participation Increases
Parents engaging in reading activities at school and at home with students increases. Interest in and reading skills increase with the additional support and practice.
