The Wave of the Future
Distance Learning Updates
Dear Wave Families,
Welcome to week 2 of distance learning with Century Academy! We appreciate your flexibility and immense support for the Century team as we develop systems to serve all students.
Please note the following important updates:
- Zoom meetings will be recorded for both the advisory and on-ground sessions. Families completed a filming and photography authorization form during the enrollment process. On-ground recorded sessions may be posted so students may reference them at a later date. Advisory meeting recordings will NOT be posted.
- Students must access their meetings using their full name. If a parent or sibling account is being utilized, you will not be admitted to the meeting.
- Parents wishing to attend an advisory meeting should make prior arrangements with your child’s advisory teacher.
The Century teachers are finding additional platforms to serve students. If a teacher moves to an alternative platform or modifies meeting times, other than their scheduled zoom meeting, they will notify you ahead of time.
Zoom Meeting & Etiquette Guidelines
Students are expected to treat web-conference class meetings as if attending class on campus, which includes behaving professionally, treating others with courtesy and respect, refraining from using socially offensive language as well as wearing appropriate clothing and avoiding inappropriate surroundings.
Students must:
- Be presentable in school appropriate attire
- Set up your meeting in an appropriate work space such as your desk or a table
- Mute your audio if you are not speaking
- Test all technology (including camera/video, Wi-Fi) before the meeting
- Be prepared to engage in class
- Enter the classroom using your first and last name in your own Zoom Account
- Have your camera on when you enter the room so that your teacher can verify your identity
Students should not:
- Interrupt other people when they are speaking or attempt to speak over them
- Work from a casual space such as your bed
- Use an account which is not your own
- Use socially offensive language

Contact Dr. Eisenberg and request a device (Ipad or Chromebook) for schoolwork and arrangements will be made for a parent to pick it from the school office.
How do students submit work to their advisory teacher?
Students can scan or send a picture of their work via email to their advisory teacher’s Learn account. Subject teachers will also direct students to submit work to Schoology, TurnItIn, and Google Classroom. If there are any questions of where to submit work students should email the subject teacher for guidance.
May students do test corrections on their CST (Computer Scored Test)?
Yes, students may reach out to the subject teacher for test corrections on a CST.
How do I keep my student on track?
Most importantly, set up a physical place in your home for them to only do schoolwork. That might be a desk in an office or at the kitchen table. Try to have it where there are no or few distractions. Look at their checklist that they received at their advisory meeting and discuss how to break up the work over the week so that all their work is completed by their next advisory meeting.
How do I know if my student is on track with APEX work?
You will continue to receive Coach reports sent on Sunday evenings. If you require a more detailed breakdown, contact Dr. Eisenberg and she will email you that information.
My child tells me they have no schoolwork?
At this point in time, all students have met with their advisory teachers and have received a checklist of all work that should be completed by their next advisory meeting.
How long will each Zoom class be?
The length of each class will vary week to week. Teachers will be locking class sessions 10 minutes after class starts. It is very important that each student shows up to their class on time.
What about Zoom security?
Zoom teacher hosted meetings will be set-up for students with only a set number of invited participants. Login information will only be shared with classroom students/families. There will be a waiting room where students will be identified by the subject teacher before they are allowed into the Zoom classroom. Students will have to ask permission to share their screen. File transfer and chat will be disabled while class is in session.
What is the status of Art, Work Experience, and ROP classes?
The Art teacher, Mr. Sawitz, will be reaching out on a one-on-one basis with his students. We have not received a directive from the District regarding Work Experience. We are also waiting to hear from VCOE (Ventura County of Education) about their ROP classes.

The College Board is currently working on an abridged version of the exams. They have stated the following: All AP exams will have an abridged 45 minute version available for students to take at home. The exam will only cover topics taught up to the start of March.
Will standardized tests be taking place this year?
No standardized tests will be given this year.
Can we expect Progress Reports?
Yes, progress reports will be going out the week of April 6th.
