Bringing Literature to LIFE!
It has been such a great week! We enjoyed our books so much this week, we even made our own books! Special thank you to our mystery readers. On Monday a part from all the activities we have been doing we also talked about the parts of a book.
Next week: We will begin our Rocks study unit.
Make sure to view our newsletter together with your child so they can also tell you about the books and activities we did in class.
This is an article from (The National Association for the Education of Young Children) that I would like to share, about the importance of Reading Aloud to your child : http://www.naeyc.org/files/yc/file/200303/ReadingAloud.pdf
Have a great weekend,

Mystery Reader
We have really enjoyed having Mystery Readers this week! We enjoyed trying to guess who are mystery reader could be with the clues that were given to us.
This is something we want continue for the rest of the year, so feel free to let me know when you want to come in, remember siblings, grandma, grandpa are also very welcome to be our mystery readers. You can read any book you would like (your child's favorite book, a book related to our study unit, its your choice) and also feel free to read the book in your home language.
What is a Mystery Reader? Mystery Readers are special guests who come to our classroom to read a story to students. Mystery Readers can be parents, grandparents, older siblings, or other relatives.
How does the Mystery Reader work?
Once you have chosen a time and date, you can start thinking of a book you would like to bring to read. If you don't have a book, I will be glad to provide one for you. You can gives us 5 clues about yourself so the children can try to guess who our mystery reader will be.
Your child will be SO excited that you participated, but remember to keep it "top secret." Make sure you don't tell your child so he/she will also be very excited to guess who our mystery reader is!
Monday
Weighing Apples!
Our first activity we did relating to the story, The Giving Tree is when the boy is in need of money, the tree offers the boy her apples to take to the city and sell.
In order to sell the apples, the boy would have to know how much they weigh, so he can attach a price to his apples. What a great way for children to learn how to measure weight-through the weighing of the apples!
To introduce the activity, we asked the children to remember times they have gone to the grocery store with their parents, and they were buying fruits and vegetables. Then, ask the students how many times they have seen their parents use a type of scale to measure how much their fruits and vegetables weighed.
We later got to enjoy some delicious apples!! Some had never tried the yellow or green apple, so it was very exciting! Of course everyone loved the sweetest one of all, the red apple! Yum!
