Sand Ridge "Shark Bites" Update
February 13, 2022 - Issue #21
Happy Valentine's Day Shark Family!
It was wonderful to have families and friends on-site last week to celebrate student success at the Second Grading Period Awards Ceremony! We are slowly beginning to see signs of what we remember as normal, pre-Covid routines.
- We are excited to begin welcoming volunteers into the building. Please see below for information about Volunteer Training opportunities and email Mr. Henderson if you would like to attend.
- Last week, NCDHHS (North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services) released an update to the Strong Schools Toolkit, which calls for an end to contact tracing effective February 21, 2022. This means we will no longer be excluding students as close contacts. Covid symptoms remain an exclusionary factor. I will highlight these changes in next week's Parent Newsletter, however you can find them in the Strong Schools Toolkit Update which is linked below.
- Effective Monday, February 14, 2022, snacks and treats no longer need to be individually wrapped. They still must be commercially prepared and be presented in original packaging with an ingredient label (this helps teachers, nurse and students avoid issues with food allergies). Cupcakes can once again become a classroom birthday treat!
Congratulations to Jordan, Mary Ellen, Hailey and Victoria!! They represented Sand Ridge Elementary at the All-County Elementary Honors Chorus concert on Saturday. The performance was wonderful and we are so happy that our students were able to participate in this yearly tradition after it was cancelled last year. Thank you to Mr. Newby for his work in preparing our talented students for their participation. See a couple of photos of the day below.
Our School Leadership Team meets this Thursday (2-17) at 7:00 am in the Media Center. Parents are always invited to attend. Please let me know if you plan to attend so that I will have enough resources prepared for all participants. I can be reached by phone at 910-326-5199 or by email at denise.gartner@onslow.k12.nc.us.
Thank you to those families that have signed up for Pi Day. The sign-up is posted below. I hope that you will help us celebrate our staff on 3-14 with a pie for Pi Day!
Have a Wonderful Week!!

IT'S TIME TO BRING VOLUNTEERS BACK IN THE BUILDING!
Mr. Henderson will begin to offer Volunteer Trainings this month. All parents wishing to volunteer must go through this training each year. If you have volunteered in the past and have completed finger-printing with Onslow County Schools, once you complete training with Mr. Henderson you are able to begin volunteering. If you have not, Mr. Henderson will review finger-printing requirements at volunteer training.
Training dates in February are as follows:
- February 14th at 8:45 am
- February 16th at 4:00 pm
- February 17th at 12:00 pm
- February 21st at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm
Please email Mr. Henderson at carl.henderson@onslow.k12.nc.us to RSVP to a date and time.
PIES NEEDED FOR PIE DAY!
