Distance Learning Academy Gr. 6-12
Weekly Update - Important Information
Dear Families
Distance Learning Academy Modifications Starting November 30
One reason why so many families selected the Distance Learning Academy was in anticipation of the district moving to remote learning. As you have learned, all schools are shifting to remote learning starting on November 30th and returning to in-person January 18th.
The impact of this decision does not significantly impact the students and families enrolled in the Distance Learning Academy. The DLA is pressing the “pause button” for in-person support. We will not be offering in-person support on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The NBDLA teachers will be collaborating next week to plan and address an alternative to in-person support. Details will be shared prior to Thanksgiving on how we will ensure students have access to their teachers during remote learning.
Grading Trimester 1 - Grades 9-12
North Branch Area Distance Learning Academy grading scale for trimester 1 is as follows:
Students who have completed the necessary components and demonstrated mastery in the skills/standards identified by the student’s teacher before December 3 will earn a letter grade A-D, I, and NG
A = Students consistently and independently exceeds mastery of some standards/skills
B = Students consistently and independently demonstrates mastery of standards/skills
C = Student demonstrates mastery of standards/skills with some support
D = Student does not yet demonstrate mastery of some standards/skills with some support
I = Incomplete evidence to measure the level of the standards/skills
NG (No Grade) = No evidence of learning
A student who receives an “I” (Incomplete) will need to complete work to demonstrate mastery in the skills/standards identified by the student’s teacher to earn credit/grade. If a student ends the trimester with an “I” they will not receive credit for the class until identified work is completed. Teachers will communicate with students and families surrounding the specifics for each student. Students will have up to two weeks to demonstrate mastery in the skills/standards identified by the teacher. If the student is unable to demonstrate mastery of the identified standards/skils the “I” will turn to an “NG”
A student who receives an “NG”(No Grade) will need to retake the entire class in credit recovery school to earn credit. An “NG” will not impact a student’s GPA.
It is critical that students are using the very best use of their time over the next week and a half to address any missing coursework. You can access your child’s coursework through Edmentum parent login or sit next to them as they show you their progress in Edmentum.
No Grading Changes for Grades 6-8
