Mrs. Brenner

Welcome to the Kindergarten!

Welcome! It’s going to be a “paws-itively” great year!

Hi! My name is Vivian Brenner -although some of you might know me previously as Ms. Chang! I am so excited to welcome you and your child to the 2023-2024 school year and spend the year with you! This will be my third year at HFE. I previously taught abroad for 3 years in an international school. I’ve always been passionate about working with children, and I’m looking forward to having your child in my class. Kindergarten is such a fun year with so many wonderful learning activities to celebrate. One of my most important goals is to create a family of learners in my classroom. I’m committed to building an environment where your child is valued, trusted, and an integral part of our family of learners. I can’t wait for all of the learning and fun memories to come this year!

Meet Mrs. Brenner

I grew up in Alpharetta, GA and spent 7 years living in Shanghai, China, before moving back to Atlanta with my dog Max (a toy poodle...I'm sure you'll hear a lot about him and Dusty - our 1 year old golden retriever). I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and an ESOL endorsement from Georgia State University. I had the honor of being the recipient of Outstanding Undergraduate in my field. I also have my Gifted endorsement, and I am currently completing my Teacher Leader Endorsement. I am also recently married (April 2023) and this is my first year as 'Mrs. Brenner.'

Meet Mrs. Helton our Paraprofessional

Hello HFE Kindergarten families! This is my third year at Heards Ferry, and I am so excited to meet you and your child. I have lived in Atlanta for 28 years and right here in the neighborhood for the last 22 years. I am married and have one daughter in graduate school. I enjoy working out, walking local trails, reading, cooking and traveling. And, I am a former Heards Ferry parent!

I am so grateful for Mrs. Helton. This is our third year together, and she is amazing!

Change of Dismissal

Students will NOT be able to be dismissed any other way without a change of dismissal. Place them in your child's yellow or blue folder and Mrs. Helton or I will see it. If you need to change how your student will be dismissed mid-day, you must contact the front office. I am not always able to check my email or there might be a substitute. For students participating in weekly activities, I will only need 1 note per semester - please include the start and end dates.

Birthday Celebrations

Use this order form to purchase a special treat delivered to the classroom from our cafeteria. Please be sure to submit the order and payment in advance as indicated on the form. If you would like bring in birthday treats please note we only allow store bought treats. Approved treats are store bought, bite size such as mini cupcakes, donut holes, two bite brownies, rice krispy treats, packaged oreos, etc. You must let me know (email or a note in your child's folder) at least 2 days in advance if you are planning to order or send in treats and on which day. We have quite a few birthdays close together and we cannot double up on treats the same day. If this happens, I will email you and ask about an alternate day (usually it's a day before or after). We have 23 students. Please note that we have tree nut, egg, sesame, and soy allergies in the class. Please make sure if you buy treats they do not contain these ingredients.

Participate Remote Days

Having our students in school each and every day is a priority for us here at HFE. We want to share with you information about Participate Remote Days. Approved Participate Remote Learning Days are a new addition to the Fulton County attendance policy as of last year. Each student is able to take 5 approved remote learning days each semester. These can be used when you have a special family event, required travel, etc. These days must be requested at least 5 days in advance and require principal's approval. These days may not be used on testing days.

Here is how the process works:

1. Parent notifies student's homeroom teacher of wanting to take remote learning days.

2. Teacher will provide link for parents to fill out requesting remote learning days.

2. Teachers will provide work that must be completed within 5 days of the absence

Please reach out to Mrs. Dunagan with any questions.
